Your Role And Responsibilities
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced security engineer to join our cloud security team, and lead efforts in upleveling Confluent’s cloud security maturity. In this role you will have a unique opportunity to leverage your cloud security experience to build some of the foundational systems and controls to keep our infrastructure secure. Tooling and automation will be key to success as we scale our environments to meet customer demand. You will work closely with peers in the wider Trust & Security organization, and partner closely with engineers across the company.

What You Will Do
- Design and implement solutions to continuously monitor the security posture of our multi-cloud environments, utilizing CSPM tools and automated remediation workflows.
- Perform security reviews and threat modeling of internal cloud infrastructure for partner teams in Confluent Engineering.
- Build tools, services, and "paved roads" to assist engineering teams in remediating cloud misconfigurations, ensuring the secure path is the easiest path for developers.
- Utilize IaC (infrastructure as code) to engineer secure-by-default blueprints and guardrails that establish and improve security baselines before code reaches production.
- Participate in a security on-call rotation where you’ll triage and remediate security incidents, working alongside engineering teams.
- Contribute to strategy and prioritization for engineering efforts around cloud security.
Required Technical And Professional Expertise
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience and a strong security fundamentals background.
- Coding proficiency in Python or Go is preferred, with the ability to write reliable automation and tooling.
- Experience uncovering and reasoning about risks through security reviews.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing controls to uplevel the security posture of multi-account and multi-region cloud environments.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.) and implementing security guardrails in cloud native environments.
- Familiarity with more than one cloud vendor (AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus.
- Ability to work alongside a remote team, using a data-driven mindset to propose and own engineering decisions.
