Systems Specialist - Customer Identity & Access Management (CIAM)

We're looking for a Systems Specialist to join our Customer Identity & Access Management (CIAM) team. This role is ideal for an infrastructure, platform or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) professional who enjoys improving platform reliability, automating operational processes and solving complex technical challenges at scale. You'll help support and evolve technology that sits at the front door of ASB's digital banking experience while contributing to the resilience, security and performance of services relied on by customers every day.

About The Team

The Customer Identity & Access Management (CIAM) team sits within ASB's Digital & Engineering Practice and is responsible for the authentication and identity services that help customers securely access our digital banking channels. Our platforms are business-critical, supporting millions of customer interactions and playing a key role in maintaining trust, security and availability across ASB's digital ecosystem.

The team combines infrastructure, identity, security and reliability engineering expertise, with a strong focus on automation, operational excellence and continuous improvement. It's a collaborative environment where people share knowledge, solve complex challenges together and constantly look for better ways to operate and scale critical services.

About The Role

As a Systems Specialist, you'll play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability, resilience and operational health of ASB's customer identity platforms. You'll work across Windows and Linux environments, helping manage critical infrastructure while identifying opportunities to automate manual processes, improve operational efficiency and strengthen platform performance.

This role exists to help the team scale, reduce operational overhead and support increasingly demanding reliability and security requirements. You'll contribute to incident response, platform maintenance, automation initiatives and service improvement activities while building your expertise in Site Reliability Engineering, identity management and platform operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improve the reliability, availability and resilience of customer-facing identity platforms
  • Support and maintain critical Windows and Linux infrastructure
  • Manage platform patching, maintenance and lifecycle activities
  • Develop automation to reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency
  • Contribute to Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices across the platform
  • Monitor platform health, performance and operational risks
  • Investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis and help prevent repeat issues
  • Participate in on-call support and after-hours maintenance activities for business-critical services
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve stability, security and performance
  • Collaborate with engineers, platform specialists and stakeholders across ASB
  • Support platform modernisation and operational excellence initiatives
  • Share knowledge and contribute to a culture of learning and continuous improvement

About You

You're someone who takes pride in building reliable systems and keeping critical services running smoothly. You enjoy understanding how technology works beneath the surface, thrive on solving complex problems and naturally look for opportunities to automate, simplify and improve.

You may currently be working as a Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Platform Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer and be looking for an opportunity to deepen your expertise in reliability engineering, automation, security and identity technologies. You'll enjoy working in a collaborative environment where you'll learn from experienced engineers while helping shape the future of critical customer platforms.

Key Skills & Experience

Must Have

  • Experience supporting and operating critical technology platforms in production environments
  • Strong Windows Server administration experience
  • Linux administration and operational support experience
  • Experience managing platform reliability, availability and operational performance
  • Infrastructure maintenance and patch management experience
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and production incidents
  • Scripting and automation experience using PowerShell or similar technologies
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Highly Desirable

  • Experience working within Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) environments
  • Infrastructure automation and platform engineering experience
  • Experience improving service reliability and operational resilience
  • Python or other scripting language experience
  • Monitoring, observability or platform health monitoring experience
  • Experience with operational excellence and reliability engineering practices

Nice to Have

  • Identity and Access Management (IAM) or Customer Identity & Access Management (CIAM) experience
  • Security-focused infrastructure or platform engineering experience
  • Authentication platform exposure
  • Experience working within highly regulated environments
  • Experience supporting large-scale customer-facing digital platforms
