Summary
This position is located in the Small Business Administration, Office of the Chief Information Officer in Chicago, IL. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Information Technology (IT) Data Management Engineer responsible for leading the planning, development, implementation, and administration of complex IT systems for the acquisition, storage, integration, transformation, analysis, sharing, and retrieval of data across the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Duties
- As a/an IT Specialist at the GS- 2210-14, some of your typical work assignments may include: Leads the planning, coordination, and execution of major IT data engineering projects, including new data management initiatives, ensuring alignment with business and mission requirements. Leads the development and execution of complex system testing strategies, configuration management plans, and quality assurance protocols. Leads and mentors project teams composed of technical specialist, analysts, and support staff. Assign tasks, monitors progress, and ensure deliverables meet quality expectations. Aligns project outcomes with agency-wide IT strategies, digital modernization goals, and mission priorities. Serves as the primary liaison between project teams, business units, vendors, and executive leadership.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must show that you have the required IT-related experience for the grade level to which your are applying: GS-14 Required Competencies: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. AND Specialized Experience: GS-14 - One cumulative year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 obtained in either the private or public sector related to each of the responsibilities below: 1. Utilizing Structures Query Language (SQL) to accomplish tasks, such as developing and refining SQL queries to facilitate efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading processes, 2. Coordinating data engineering work, such as coordinating requirements gathering and resource planning through implementation, testing, and sustainment using technologies such as SQL, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, or AWS/Azure analytics services; 3. Running data management projects end to end, such as planning and delivering projects: creating a timeline, tracking risks, coordinating with teammates, or keeping work moving; 4. Explaining technical ideas, such as sharing updates and trade-offs with different audiences(e.g., data analysts, vendors, and senior leaders) through briefings, reports, or documentation; 5. Solving problems with secure, scalable solutions, such as diagnosing issues (E.g., bugs, performance, integration), improving reliability, or building with security in mind (e.g., authentication/authorization, data protection) so systems can handle growth. These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume. There is no education substitution for this grade level. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Generally, time in Non-Pay status as a federal employee is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed above. Evaluations
Applicants meeting basic eligibility requirements will be further evaluated based on additional assessments. One of these assessment is USA Hire. This is a bargaining unit position with AFGE local 228. This is not a (drug) testing designated position (TDP).
