INFRASTRUCTURE THAT SAVES LIVES
Lab Thread is an engineering-driven biotech SaaS company founded in 2023. We are the digital nervous system for modern small and mid-sized laboratories — software that enables scientists to design DNA sequences, track experiments, and accelerate discoveries.
Here, your uptime isn’t just a metric — it’s the difference between a successful experiment and a lost year of research. The stability and automation you build will have a direct, tangible impact on scientific progress.
AUTOMATION-FIRST STACK
Azure
- MSSQL
- Terraform
- Bicep
- Bash
- PowerShell
- Azure CLI
- Docker
- Bitbucket Pipelines
- CI/CD
- Azure Monitor
OWNERSHIP, NOT TICKET-CHASING
This Is Not a Ticket-driven Role. You Will
- Own the infrastructure powering our platform end-to-end — from CI/CD pipeline design to cloud security and cost optimisation.
- Automate MSSQL setup, configuration, and high availability workflows.
- Kill legacy processes — migrate and automate remaining manual deployments in our Windows Server and Azure environments.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting for full observability and long-term reliability.
- Work directly with founders and engineering teams, influencing infrastructure strategy from day one.
- Work in a hybrid, flexible model built on trust, focus, and deep work.
You’re a senior engineer who views manual work as a bug that needs to be fixed, and builds self-healing infrastructure instead.
- 5+ years in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or infrastructure automation roles, or 3+ years in a high-intensity startup environment.
- Deep, hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure — scaling, security, and cost management.
- Battle-tested MSSQL automation experience — scripting, setup, and HA solutions.
- Scripting expertise across PowerShell, Bash, and Azure CLI.
- Solid experience with IaC tools — Terraform or Bicep.
- Fluent in English and Bulgarian — able to explain infrastructure trade-offs to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Docker and containerisation experience.
- Experience with monitoring stacks — Azure Monitor, Prometheus, or Grafana.
- Basic understanding of software development (.NET or Next.js).
- Networking fundamentals and SRE principles.
In 30 days: You’ve audited our Azure setup, stabilised existing CI/CD pipelines, and identified the first three high-impact targets for full automation.
In 6 months: Our MSSQL setup is fully automated and highly available. You’ve implemented IaC across all core environments and established clear observability across the platform.
In 1 year: You’ve set the gold standard for DevOps at Lab Thread, significantly reduced deployment friction, and built infrastructure that scales with the platform’s global growth.
WHY LAB THREAD
- Impact: The infrastructure you build directly enables cancer research, gene therapy, and drug development — not abstract KPIs.
- Autonomy: Small team, zero bureaucracy. Your technical decisions shape the future of the product.
- Growth: Clear path to technical leadership as our engineering team expands.
- Compensation: Competitive salary + merit-based stock options for team members who drive outsized impact.
- Flexibility: Hybrid work and flexible hours built on trust and output, not office hours.
- Access: Direct collaboration with founders and decision-makers from day one.
