Position Summary
The FinOps Professional will leverage a strong working knowledge of the FinOps Framework lifecycle to drive financial accountability, cost optimization, automation, and operational efficiency across our cloud and IT environments. This role plays a critical part in bridging Finance, Engineering, and IT Operations, ensuring cloud resources are consumed efficiently, costs are forecasted accurately, and technology investments align with overall business objectives.
This position requires a blend of technical cloud expertise, financial acumen, and strong communication skills to influence stakeholders and promote shared ownership of cloud spending.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Financial Management
- Monitor, analyze, and report on cloud usage and spend across AWS and secondary cloud providers.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports that provide clear visibility into cloud costs, trends, and forecasts.
- Partner closely with Finance teams to improve budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial accuracy.
Optimization & Cost Efficiency
- Identify cost‑saving opportunities through rightsizing, usage optimization, reserved instances, and savings plans.
- Collaborate with Engineering teams to ensure architectural decisions align with cost efficiency and performance goals.
- Develop and implement cost governance policies and guardrails to prevent waste and uncontrolled spend.
Collaboration & Communication
- Act as a key liaison between Finance, IT, and Engineering stakeholders.
- Educate teams on FinOps principles, promoting shared financial accountability across the organization.
- Present insights, recommendations, and financial impacts to leadership in a clear, data‑driven manner.
Process, Governance & Automation
- Implement FinOps best practices, standards, and automation workflows.
- Establish and manage chargeback and/or showback models for teams or business units.
- Track adherence to budgets and enforce compliance with governance policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience in cloud financial management, cloud operations, or IT finance.
- Experience with cloud cost analysis tools, budgeting, savings plans, reserved instances, and cost allocation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret both financial and technical data.
- Proven ability to automate reporting and optimization workflows using APIs and scripting tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across technical and financial teams.
- Solid understanding of FinOps principles (FinOps Foundation certification is a plus).
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying current on cloud pricing and FinOps best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud cost management tools such as CloudHealth, Apptio, Cloudability, AWS Cost Explorer, or similar platforms.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
- Familiarity with automation and scripting languages such as Python, SQL, or comparable tools.
- Prior experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), business operations, or technology finance.
