About the Position:
New Lisbon Broadband & Communications is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to help operate, maintain and improve the broadband, voice and IT infrastructure serving our customers throughout East Central Indiana.
This is a hands-on position within a small telecommunications company. The right candidate will do more than monitor alarms or manage an office network. This individual will troubleshoot complex service-provider network issues, support critical infrastructure and help ensure reliable internet and voice services for our customers.
The position requires someone who takes ownership of problems, communicates clearly and is comfortable handling multiple responsibilities in a fast-moving environment.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the availability, performance and reliability of broadband, voice and supporting network infrastructure
- Troubleshoot routing, switching, packet loss, latency, connectivity and service-degradation issues
- Diagnose network problems across Layers 1, 2 and 3
- Configure, maintain and support routers, switches and related network equipment
- Troubleshoot route advertisements and routing-table issues involving protocols such as BGP, OSPF and IS-IS
- Assist with fiber-access platforms, customer authentication, GPON/XGS-PON and other service-provider technologies
- Support Linux, Windows and virtualized server environments
- Investigate network outages and coordinate restoration efforts with internal teams, field personnel, upstream carriers and vendors
- Assist with troubleshooting voice and VoIP service-quality issues
- Review network performance and recommend improvements that increase reliability, capacity and security
- Create and maintain network diagrams, standard operating procedures, change records and troubleshooting documentation
- Participate in planned network maintenance and respond to urgent network issues when necessary
- Communicate technical issues and customer impact clearly to both technical and nontechnical team members
Required Qualifications
- Three or more years of hands-on experience in network engineering, network operations, telecommunications or enterprise networking
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, routing and switching
- Experience troubleshooting network problems across physical, data-link and network layers
- Working knowledge of Linux and Windows environments
- Ability to methodically troubleshoot problems and identify root causes
- Strong communication, documentation and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing issues and take ownership through resolution
- Ability to work on-site in New Lisbon, Indiana
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for an internet service provider, telecommunications company or similar network operator
- Experience with BGP, OSPF, IS-IS or other dynamic routing protocols
- Familiarity with Cisco, Juniper, Adtran or comparable network platforms
- Experience with GPON, XGS-PON, fiber-access networks or optical troubleshooting
- Experience with VoIP, SIP or carrier-grade voice platforms
- Experience with virtualization, network monitoring and performance-analysis tools
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, telecommunications or a related field
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA or equivalent practical experience
Compensation and Benefits
- Expected salary range of $75,000–$85,000, depending on skills and experience
