Senior Cloud Engineer – AWS

Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to support a multi-year cloud transformation focused on migrating mission-critical applications and data from on-premises environments to AWS.
This position will be responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and optimizing scalable cloud infrastructure supporting highly available, business-critical systems. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, Terraform, Docker, and Linux, along with experience supporting production environments in a highly regulated industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize cloud-native infrastructure using AWS services including EC2, EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC, and KMS.
- Support the migration of mission-critical applications and data from on-premises environments to AWS.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
- Deploy and support containerized environments using Kubernetes/EKS and Docker.
- Integrate cloud infrastructure deployments with CI/CD pipelines and established DevOps practices.
- Implement cloud security best practices including IAM policies, network segmentation, encryption, key management, and vulnerability remediation.
- Ensure cloud environments meet applicable security, risk, and compliance requirements, including PCI-DSS, SOC 2, and FFIEC.
- Partner with Security and Compliance teams to support internal and external audits, including evidence collection and responses to audit requests.
- Design and implement highly available, fault-tolerant infrastructure and disaster recovery solutions.
- Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Splunk, or similar platforms.
- Troubleshoot complex production infrastructure issues across multiple layers of the technology stack and perform root cause analysis.
- Support vulnerability management and patching programs to ensure remediation meets established SLAs.
- Participate in a 24/7 production on-call rotation.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation covering cloud infrastructure, configurations, policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Collaborate with engineering, security, compliance, and business teams to develop technical plans, define backlog stories, and deliver solutions through production.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or related infrastructure roles.
- 3+ years of hands-on AWS experience.
- Strong experience with AWS services including EC2, EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC, and KMS.
- Strong hands-on Kubernetes experience, preferably AWS EKS.
- Experience with Docker and containerized application environments.
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting experience.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and mature DevOps engineering practices.
- Experience supporting highly available, business-critical production systems.
- Experience implementing cloud security and compliance controls aligned with PCI-DSS, SOC 2, FFIEC, or comparable regulatory frameworks.
- Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions for complex production systems.
- Experience with disaster recovery, high availability, incident response, and root cause analysis.
- Strong technical documentation, communication, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Current AWS or comparable cloud certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Ability to successfully complete required background and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within FinTech, banking, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience supporting high-volume transactional systems.
- Knowledge of ACH, EFT, Real-Time Payments (RTP), or FedNow.
- Experience with AppDynamics or similar application monitoring platforms.
- Experience with container security platforms such as Twistlock/Prisma Cloud or Aqua Security.
- Development or scripting experience with Python, C#, Ruby, or similar languages.
