Senior Software/Platform Engineer

Job Summary

Our client, a global technology company, is looking for a Senior Software/Platform Engineer to join their messaging and streaming platform team, contract through 09/29/2028, onsite in Round Rock, TX. Despite the title, this is a hands-on platform engineering role, not application development, owning production RabbitMQ and Kafka environments across cloud and legacy applications. The role involves installing, patching, upgrading, configuring, and securing messaging platforms, disaster recovery planning and backup/recovery, and monitoring and addressing performance issues as producers and consumers change. The right candidate has real hands-on RabbitMQ and Kafka administration at enterprise scale, not just app-side exposure, along with strong scripting, config management, and monitoring tool chops, plus practical experience using AI-powered dev/ops tools.

Core Responsibilities

• Install, patch, and upgrade RabbitMQ and Kafka software
• Configure, secure, and tune messaging platforms for high availability
• Handle disaster recovery planning, backup, and recovery
• Monitor platform health and address performance/scalability challenges as producers and consumers change
• Use AI-powered tools to accelerate troubleshooting, documentation, automation, and incident resolution
• Work independently on day-to-day monitoring and operations across cloud and legacy applications
• Provide operational support to application development teams
• Work in an agile, globally distributed team setting

Required Skills/Experience (Must-Haves)

• 6+ years in middleware/Kafka messaging, application platform management, distributed architecture
• Strong proven experience managing RabbitMQ and Kafka for large-scale enterprise systems
• Deep configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization knowledge of Kafka/RabbitMQ
• Monitoring/logging tools: Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Dynatrace
• Python and shell scripting
• Config management tools, Ansible preferred
• Practical experience using AI-powered development/operational tools

Preferred Skills/Experience (Nice-to-Haves)

• Gen AI/Agentic AI applied to infrastructure operations, platform engineering, or dev workflows
• AI-assisted observability, incident management, or intelligent automation
• Kubernetes and Docker
• Other messaging/streaming platforms: IBM MQ, ActiveMQ, Apache Flink

Key Competencies and Behaviors

• Comfortable owning both platform administration and hands-on troubleshooting, not just one side
• Able to independently diagnose and resolve issues under pressure without escalating and waiting
• Proactive about using AI/automation tools to improve operational efficiency
• Collaborative in a globally distributed, agile team environment
• Capable of managing production systems with minimal oversight

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Range: The approximate pay range for this position is between $39.00 and $56.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and location. We comply with local wage minimums.
