Public Cloud Architect
$200,000-$215,000
OverviewA large enterprise organisation is seeking an experienced Public Cloud Architect to lead the strategy, design, governance, and evolution of its cloud platform. This role focuses on building scalable, secure, and automated cloud capabilities across hybrid infrastructure environments while enabling application teams to efficiently consume cloud services.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership for cloud platform architecture, establish governance standards, promote infrastructure automation, and support cloud adoption across multiple business units. While AWS is the primary cloud platform, experience extending governance and operational practices across additional public cloud providers is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and manage a multi-account cloud framework, including account structure, governance controls, and automated provisioning processes.
- Build and maintain enterprise landing zones that provide standardised security, networking, identity, and monitoring capabilities for newly provisioned environments.
- Define and enforce cloud security standards, including identity management, policy controls, threat detection, compliance monitoring, and web application protection.
- Architect and optimise cloud networking solutions, including network segmentation, connectivity between cloud and on-premises environments, private access strategies, and DNS services.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions to support repeatable, compliant, and scalable infrastructure deployments.
- Establish cloud financial management practices, including resource optimisation, usage monitoring, cost allocation, and savings initiatives.
- Partner with application and engineering teams to support cloud onboarding, architectural guidance, service consumption standards, and operational best practices.
- Ensure governance models can be consistently extended across additional cloud providers as business requirements evolve.
- Maintain platform standards, compliance readiness, exception management processes, and architecture review practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in cloud architecture, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a related discipline.
- Advanced expertise with AWS cloud services, including multi-account environments, governance frameworks, and large-scale cloud platform design.
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and infrastructure automation practices.
- Deep understanding of cloud networking, including virtual network design, routing, hybrid connectivity, and private access models.
- Experience implementing enterprise cloud security controls, identity management solutions, governance policies, and monitoring frameworks.
- Experience deploying and supporting Kubernetes-based platforms in managed cloud environments.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps methodologies, and automated infrastructure delivery.
- Experience with native cloud infrastructure templating and provisioning tools.
- Knowledge of governance and landing zone frameworks within additional public cloud platforms.
- Experience with FinOps practices, cloud cost optimisation strategies, chargeback/showback models, and resource utilisation analysis.
- Familiarity with recognised cloud security and compliance frameworks.
- Understanding of advanced network security architectures and traffic inspection patterns.
- Experience with observability and monitoring platforms for cloud-native environments.
- Knowledge of identity federation, Zero Trust principles, and privileged access management solutions.
- Experience with enterprise Kubernetes distributions and container platforms.
- Exposure to high-performance computing (HPC), GPU-enabled workloads, or specialised compute environments.
- Experience building internal developer platforms, self-service infrastructure capabilities, or service catalog solutions.
- Relevant cloud certifications such as professional-level cloud architecture, cloud engineering, or cloud operations certifications.
