The Senior Business Systems Engineer serves as a technical and functional expert in the design, configuration, optimization, and strategic evolution of SWIB’s front- and middle‑office business systems, with primary emphasis on the Charles River Investment Management System (CRIMS/CRD). Operating with minimal direction, this role independently drives complex solution delivery, leads cross‑functional initiatives, and shapes the long‑term architecture and effectiveness of Charles River and its ecosystem.
The Senior Engineer collaborates extensively with Trading, Portfolio Management, Operations, Compliance, and Technology teams to ensure CRD is highly reliable, strategically aligned, and continuously improved to meet evolving business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical and functional subject-matter expert for the Charles River platform, providing deep expertise in workflows, data flows, configurations, integrations, and architectural strategy.
- Lead and execute complex enhancements, upgrades, integration initiatives, and architectural improvements across the CRD ecosystem.
- Independently drive and implement change across front‑ and middle‑office systems, including defining strategic objectives, recommending direction, and influencing platform roadmaps
- Develop, manage, and execute multi‑phase programs and high‑impact initiatives with minimal oversight.
- Lead cross‑functional project teams, providing direction to others as needed and ensuring high‑quality, timely delivery.
- Architect and oversee integrations with market data providers and downstream platforms such as Bloomberg, FactSet, SimCorp, Eagle, custodians, and other enterprise systems
- .Shape the evolution of front‑ and middle‑office architecture centered on Charles River, ensuring scalability, reliability, and data integrity.
- Perform complex analysis of strategic issues, including performance challenges, workflow optimization, and platform gaps.
- Lead root‑cause analyses and drive continuous improvement efforts impacting system stability, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Recommend and implement automation opportunities and process enhancements across CRD and adjacent systems.
- Establish and champion best‑practice standards across configuration management, testing, documentation, and production support.
- Lead sophisticated software testing and validation for system changes, ensuring high‑quality, risk‑managed releases.
- Maintain comprehensive, high‑quality system documentation covering workflows, configurations, and integration points.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required (Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, or related field preferred).
- 6 – 15+ years of relevant experience, preferably within the investment management industry, supporting or leading OMS/EMS initiatives.
- Proven ability to operate with minimal direction, delivering high‑impact solutions as a technical/functional expert.
- Extensive hands‑on experience with Charles River or similar OMS platforms, including trading workflows, compliance, allocations, and integrations.
- Experience configuring or implementing EMS platforms such as ITG, Flextrade, or Tradeweb.
- Strong leadership capability with experience directing the work of others when appropriate.
- Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills, including ability to assess strategic issues and design high‑quality solutions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; proven ability to work effectively across divisions and cross‑functional teams.
- Progress toward professional certifications, technical certifications, or advanced degrees is highly valued.
