Role Overview
The Senior Systems Engineer will own and evolve the company's cloud infrastructure, focusing on Azure platform management, virtualization, and network integration. This role demands a highly independent leader with proven hands-on experience managing virtual machines, networking, and security in cloud and hybrid environments. The position offers an opportunity to significantly impact enterprise operations while working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, deployment, and ongoing management of enterprise Azure cloud solutions, including virtual machines, networking, and storage.
- Manage and optimize Azure Virtual Desktop, Azure AD, Entra ID, and related cloud services to ensure high availability, security, and performance.
- Take ownership of Azure infrastructure, including deploying, configuring, and maintaining Azure Virtual Machines, networks, load balancers, and security configurations.
- Develop infrastructure automation scripts and workflows using PowerShell, ARM templates, and Azure DevOps.
- Oversee virtual desktop environments and coordinate updates, security patches, and performance tuning.
- Configure and monitor cloud and on-premises environments for capacity planning, security compliance, and incident response.
- Implement and maintain security best practices, including identity management, multi-factor authentication, and network security group configurations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on cloud migration projects, incident management, and infrastructure enhancements.
- Maintain detailed documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge base related to Azure environments and cloud best practices.
- Support enterprise-wide initiatives including disaster recovery planning, hybrid cloud integrations, and enterprise security architecture.
- Act as a point of contact for vendors, partners, and internal teams on cloud infrastructure projects and technology evaluations.
Core Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Proven ownership and extensive hands-on experience managing Azure cloud environments, including deploying, configuring, and maintaining Virtual Machines, networking, virtual desktops, and security.
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent are highly preferred.
- Strong experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (Azure Virtual Desktop expertise is a plus).
- Experience managing enterprise infrastructure in regulated industry environments.
- Deep understanding of Azure AD, Entra ID, Intune, networking, and hybrid cloud configurations.
- Hands-on experience with automation and scripting via PowerShell, ARM templates, and Azure DevOps.
- Knowledge of Azure security best practices, Zero Trust architecture, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies including Hyper-V, VMware, or similar.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take full ownership of cloud infrastructure projects.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with Azure Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, MSSQL, enterprise firewalls, Kubernetes, and related cloud-native tools.
- Knowledge of compliance standards relevant to regulated industries.
- Previous experience managing remote or distributed teams.
