Principal AWS Cloud Platform Engineer - Remote - £130,000 + Share Options + Private Medical Insurance
We're seeking an exceptional Principal Cloud Platform Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping a secure, resilient and highly scalable cloud platform that underpins advanced AI-powered products and services. This is a principal-level, hands-on engineering position with significant technical influence and ownership.
Working closely with senior engineering and business leaders, you'll define and execute the cloud platform strategy, establishing best practices across cloud architecture, infrastructure-as-code, DevSecOps, observability, security, reliability and AI governance.

What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and operating secure, multi-account AWS environments.
- Establishing standards for identity, networking, encryption, secrets management, logging and disaster recovery.
- Building reusable platform components and deployment patterns to improve engineering productivity.
- Developing event-driven architectures using AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge and Step Functions.
- Supporting container-based workloads using ECS, Fargate and, where appropriate, Kubernetes.
- Implementing Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK, Terraform/OpenTofu and CloudFormation.
- Building secure CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, policy enforcement and deployment controls.
- Driving software supply chain security and cloud security best practices.
- Defining observability standards across metrics, logs, traces and security telemetry.
- Establishing secure approaches for AI-enabled engineering, foundation models and agent-based systems.
- Improving resilience through testing, incident response readiness and disaster recovery exercises.
What We're Looking For
- Significant experience designing, building and operating production AWS platforms.
- Strong expertise in AWS networking, identity, compute, storage, encryption and monitoring.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and cloud automation.
- Experience running production serverless and/or containerised environments.
- Strong understanding of cloud, application, API and software supply chain security.
- Experience delivering highly reliable services for enterprise or other high-trust environments.
- Strong software engineering capability in at least one modern programming language.
- Knowledge of reliability engineering, observability, incident response and disaster recovery.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical strategy and collaborate across teams.
Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- Amazon Bedrock, AI governance or agent-based AI solutions.
- Secure adoption of AI-assisted development tools.
- CrowdStrike Falcon Cloud Security, Amazon Macie or related security platforms.
- Multi-cloud environments including Azure and/or Google Cloud.
- Secure multi-tenant SaaS architectures.
- Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, government or defence.
- AWS, Kubernetes or cloud security certifications.
