Enterprise Systems Engineer
Indexed description
This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems that span infrastructure, software, databases, cloud platforms, applications, and systems integration. You'll have significant autonomy in determining technical approaches while collaborating closely with IT leadership and business stakeholders. You'll have the opportunity to work across multiple technology domains, both on-prem and cloud, while helping define the next generation of our technology stack.
If you're the type of engineer who enjoys taking an ambiguous problem, uncovering the root cause, evaluating multiple technical approaches, implementing the right solution, and then helping the organization successfully adopt it—you'll thrive in this role.
What You'll Do
- Lead the technical design and implementation of modernization initiatives spanning applications, databases, infrastructure, cloud platforms, IAM, integration, and automation.
- Independently investigate complex cross platform technical problems, identify root causes, develop and compare solution options, and recommend implementation strategies based on business value, risk, cost, operational impact, and long-term maintainability.
- Own technology solutions from initial discovery and architecture through development, testing, deployment, stabilization, documentation, and transition to operational support.
- Develop scripts, APIs, automation, integrations, and ETL processes to improve reliability, efficiency, and data flow between enterprise systems.
- Design and implement solutions within an environment that includes Microsoft Windows Server, MS 365, Azure, Active Directory, Entra ID, Intune, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Dynamics, and Salesforce.
- Support SQL Server administration, query optimization, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
- Provide technical leadership during migration from legacy systems to modern cloud and SaaS platforms.
- Collaborate with IT, business teams, vendors, and external partners to deliver reliable and practical technology solutions.
- Create clear technical documentation, establish support procedures, and train other IT staff to operate and maintain technical solutions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, including generative AI, and recommend opportunities to reduce risk, improve productivity, and support business growth.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise IT, systems engineering, software development, cloud engineering, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated ability to work across enterprise architecture, systems engineering, software development, databases, and cloud technologies.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to independently solve complex technical problems.
- Experience designing and implementing enterprise technology solutions with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Microsoft infrastructure and cloud technologies, including Windows Server, Azure, MS 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, Intune, and PowerShell.
- Microsoft SQL Server, including SQL development, query optimization, troubleshooting, and database administration fundamentals.
- Experience in coding using one or more modern languages such as Python, C#, or Java.
- Experience developing APIs, automation, systems integrations, and ETL processes.
- Enterprise architecture, systems engineering, cloud migration, and modernization of legacy environments.
- Experience using generative AI tools to improve development, troubleshooting, analysis, and efficiency.
- Agile delivery methodologies and modern software-development practices.
- Microsoft Dynamics
- Salesforce (Field Service, Sales Cloud, Agentforce, Payments)
- Networking (Cisco, Meraki, Windows, general troubleshooting)
- Enjoys tackling technical challenges that don't fit neatly into a single discipline.
- Thinks strategically but enjoys hands-on implementation & can quickly learn unfamiliar technologies.
- Balances technical excellence with practical business needs.
- Operates independently while collaborating effectively with others.
- Takes ownership from initial concept through successful deployment.
- Builds solutions that are maintainable, well documented, and supportable by the broader IT team
- Communicates fluently and credibly with engineers, business leaders, users, vendors, and external partners.
- Knows when to pursue a robust long-term solution and when a simpler, pragmatic approach is appropriate.
- Led one or more enterprise modernization initiatives.
- Delivered automation and integration that measurably improve IT efficiency, reliability, or service quality.
- Helped modernize our identity and endpoint-management environment.
- Helped define the technical strategy and roadmap for upgrading and migrating our legacy ERP environment.
- Become a trusted SME for complex cross-functional initiatives.
You will work closely with IT leadership and business stakeholders, help determine how complex problems should be solved, and see your solutions through from initial concept to sustained production use. For an engineer who values variety, ownership, and the opportunity to materially improve an enterprise technology environment, this is a role where you will thrive.
