Indexed description

We are partnering with a reputable supply-chain/logistics client headquartered in Long Beach, CA to find a hands-on Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer / Manager to lead the strategy, architecture, delivery, security, and daily operation of the company’s enterprise infrastructure environment.

This role is responsible for Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, hybrid identity, enterprise networking, firewalls, virtualization, storage, backup, disaster recovery, and infrastructure operations across corporate and remote locations.

The successful candidate must be an experienced people leader with current technical depth. This is not a purely administrative management position. The individual must be able to set direction, lead engineers and vendors, review technical designs, manage operational priorities, and become directly involved in complex implementations, migrations, troubleshooting, and major incidents when necessary.

The environment includes cloud and on-premises infrastructure, legacy platforms, technical debt, incomplete documentation, multiple vendors, remote operating sites, and competing operational and project priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop infrastructure, cloud, network, and systems engineers.
  • Establish priorities across operational support, project delivery, maintenance, security remediation, lifecycle management, and technical debt.
  • Assign clear ownership and hold team members accountable for delivery, documentation, testing, implementation readiness, and operational support.
  • Review technical designs, implementation plans, change requests, rollback plans, test results, and operational documentation.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership during complex implementations, outages, escalations, migrations, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Own the architecture, governance, reliability, security, performance, and cost management of the Microsoft Azure environment.
  • Maintain Azure standards covering management groups, subscriptions, virtual networks, subnets, routing, private connectivity, network security groups, Azure Policy, Role-Based Access Control, naming, tagging, logging, and monitoring.
  • Oversee hybrid connectivity, including site-to-site virtual private networks, ExpressRoute, firewall integration, remote access, and cloud-to-on-premises communication.
  • Support Azure Virtual Desktop, virtual machines, cloud storage, backup, disaster recovery, and application infrastructure dependencies.
  • Own Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, hybrid identity, conditional access, multifactor authentication, privileged access, service accounts, and identity lifecycle management.
  • Support and modernize Active Directory Federation Services and other legacy authentication platforms where applicable.
  • Provide leadership and technical oversight for Nutanix, VMware, Pure Storage, Windows Server, backup, replication, and recovery platforms.
  • Establish lifecycle, capacity, patching, firmware, warranty, supportability, and replacement plans.
  • Lead disaster recovery planning and recovery testing, including recovery time objectives, recovery point objectives, system dependencies, recovery sequencing, and business priorities.
  • Own enterprise network architecture across corporate, data center, warehouse, operational, and remote locations.
  • Lead the design and operation of Cisco switching and routing, Palo Alto Networks firewalls, wireless infrastructure, internet circuits, wide area networking, virtual local area networks, segmentation, and remote connectivity.
  • Review and approve firewall rules, network changes, segmentation designs, routing changes, and connectivity solutions.
  • Lead infrastructure initiatives from discovery and design through implementation, validation, and operational handoff.
  • Participate in Change Advisory Board reviews and ensure changes include documented scope, dependencies, testing, rollback procedures, support ownership, and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning following significant incidents.
  • Establish infrastructure standards, operating procedures, runbooks, inventories, diagrams, monitoring, and support documentation.
  • Manage infrastructure vendors, managed service providers, telecommunications providers, licensing partners, and implementation consultants.
  • Independently evaluate vendor recommendations, technical designs, pricing, statements of work, and proposed solutions.
  • Manage infrastructure budgets, licensing, renewals, maintenance agreements, hardware procurement, cloud consumption, and lifecycle investments.
  • Communicate technical risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and recommendations to executive and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ten or more years of progressive experience in infrastructure, systems, network, or cloud engineering.
  • Four or more years leading infrastructure, cloud, network, or systems engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a production enterprise hybrid infrastructure environment.
  • Strong hands-on Microsoft Azure experience, including architecture, networking, governance, identity, security, monitoring, and cost management.
  • Direct experience with Azure virtual networks, subscriptions, management groups, routing, private connectivity, Azure Policy, network security groups, and Role-Based Access Control.
  • Strong experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, hybrid identity, conditional access, multifactor authentication, and privileged access.
  • Experience supporting or modernizing Active Directory Federation Services or comparable federated authentication platforms.
  • Direct experience with Nutanix, VMware, enterprise storage, backup, replication, and disaster recovery.
  • Working technical expertise with Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Cisco switching and routing.
  • Experience leading major infrastructure upgrades, cloud migrations, network deployments, data center initiatives, recovery efforts, or platform modernization programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage engineers, vendors, budgets, competing priorities, production incidents, and executive escalations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to participate in onsite work, after-hours implementations, and major-incident escalations when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Azure Administrator or Azure Solutions Architect certification.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate or Cisco Certified Network Professional certification.
  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator or Network Security Engineer certification.
  • Nutanix, VMware, Microsoft 365, security, or Information Technology Infrastructure Library certification.
  • Experience supporting logistics, transportation, maritime, manufacturing, warehousing, industrial operations, or another distributed operating environment.
  • Experience managing legacy infrastructure and modern cloud platforms within the same environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune, endpoint management, security remediation, infrastructure roadmaps, and multi-year lifecycle planning.
