About The Job

We are looking for an experienced Application / Cloud Architect to support the delivery of strategic digital solutions for a leading European institution. In this role, you will combine architectural leadership with hands-on technical expertise, driving the design, development, integration, and evolution of enterprise applications. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure interoperability, scalability, security, and operational excellence across the solution landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and define scalable application architectures aligned with business and technical requirements.
• Lead the implementation of cloud-ready, microservices-based, and event-driven solutions.
• Establish architecture standards, design patterns, and development best practices.
• Ensure interoperability between multiple enterprise applications and technology components.
• Contribute to architectural decisions related to API design, integration frameworks, data management, and cloud technologies.
• Support technical governance and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles.
• Analyse and understand functional, technical, and business requirements.
• Design and develop back-end and front-end solutions using modern technologies and frameworks.
• Design, build, and maintain APIs and microservices.
• Oversee application structure, code quality, maintainability, and scalability.
• Participate in the design and implementation of data storage solutions.
• Take technical leadership on projects and provide guidance to development teams.
• Interpret and implement executable BPMN 2.0 specifications.
• Analyse BPMN and UML models to design automated business processes.
• Contribute to workflow optimisation and business process automation initiatives.
• Implement process orchestration solutions using Camunda and related BPM technologies.
• Design and support CI/CD and DevOps pipelines.
• Integrate applications with messaging, middleware, and enterprise integration platforms.
• Ensure secure application design and compliance with data protection requirements.
• Implement security best practices and address application vulnerabilities.
• Support cloud integration and deployment activities.
• Define and implement testing strategies, scenarios, and test cases.
• Troubleshoot application issues and lead root-cause analysis activities.
• Monitor application performance and identify optimisation opportunities.
• Ensure delivery of robust, secure, and high-quality solutions.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and architecture artefacts.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
• Present technical solutions and architectural recommendations.
• Support decision-making processes on technology choices and solution design.
• Contribute effectively within an international and multicultural environment.

Profile Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (minimum EQF Level 6) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Strong experience in application architecture and enterprise software design.
• Proven expertise in: Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Kafka, Angular (14+), TypeScript, JavaScript
• Strong knowledge of: Cloud-native architecture principles, Microservices architecture, Event-Driven Architecture, Event Sourcing and CQRS, RESTful API design, Relational databases, Enterprise integration patterns, Application architecture best practices, BPMN modelling and execution, DevOps and CI/CD methodologies
• Experience with: Camunda, Business process modelling and automation, Middleware and messaging platforms, Secure application development, Modern front-end architecture and responsive web applications
• Strong leadership and technical decision-making capabilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and proactively.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desired Assets

• Experience designing solutions on AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
• Strong expertise in cloud integration patterns and distributed systems.
• Experience with middleware integration platforms.
• Knowledge of Graph Databases.
• Experience designing enterprise-scale event-driven ecosystems.
• Strong expertise in BPMN 2.0.
• Advanced experience with Camunda and executable BPMN implementations.
• Proven track record in business process analysis, optimisation, and automation.
• Strong experience with micro-frontend architectures.
• Experience with: HTML5, CSS/SASS, SVG, Node.js, Single Page Applications (SPA), Large-scale multi-module frontend ecosystems
• Knowledge of: NgRx / Redux state management, Ionic and Progressive Web Applications (PWA)
• Experience with: GitLab, Jenkins, JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, Nexus, SonarQube, Crucible
• Knowledge of: Docker, Kubernetes, DevSecOps practices
• Experience implementing: SSO and CAS authentication; Enterprise identity and access management solutions; Secure session management; XSS and CSRF mitigation strategies
• Previous experience supporting large-scale public sector or international organisations.
• Familiarity with reusable enterprise platforms, API gateways, workflow orchestration frameworks, and enterprise architecture tools.
• Experience with ARIS or similar enterprise architecture and business process modelling solutions.
• Relevant certifications in Cloud Architecture, Java, DevOps, Security, Agile, BPM, or Enterprise Architecture would be considered an asset.
