About The Team

We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer III to join our Engineering Platform Continuous Delivery HCM team. The ideal candidate is passionate about automating software release processes, building reliable deployment pipelines, and improving engineering productivity through modern CI/CD practices. You will play a key role in designing, implementing, and operating the release automation platform that orchestrates UKG Pro product deployments across hybrid cloud and datacenter environments — keeping developer experience smooth and production deployments dependable.

About The Role

  • Software Development & Automation
    • Develop JavaScript/Node.js automation tools that orchestrate multi-step deployment processes.
    • Build PowerShell and Bash scripts for Windows service management, IIS operations, and environment configuration.
    • Continuously eliminate manual toil by automating repetitive operational tasks (e.g., SU YAML updates, nightly custom deployments, bulk server updates)
    • Explore and implement AI-powered tooling to enhance developer productivity and deployment insight.
  • Platform Engineering
    • Manage and evolve the server inventory system backed by GCP Firestore and internal inventory APIs.
    • Build and maintain self-hosted GitHub Actions runner infrastructure, including pre-scaling and cleanup workflows.
    • Design Deployment Protection Rule (DPR) workflows and approval gates to enforce change control at the pipeline level.
    • Develop reusable workflow components and internal tooling that reduce toil for the broader engineering organization.
  • Platform Operations
    • Monitor pipeline health, deployment status, and server-level outcomes using observability tooling.
    • Troubleshoot production deployment failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
    • Maintain service stop/start scripts, IIS management automation, and post-deployment validation workflows.
    • Respond to and resolve operational issues across GCP and on-premises server fleets.
  • Infrastructure & Reliability
    • Manage hybrid server infrastructure spanning datacenter regions and GCP.
    • Implement and maintain SSH-based Windows server management via Ansible.
    • Ensure deployment reliability through Firestore state tracking and multi-phase validation workflows.
    • Support rollback capabilities and disaster recovery for production deployments.
  • Technical Leadership
    • Participate in architecture discussions and technical design reviews for the CD platform.
    • Review automation code to ensure quality, maintainability, security, and adherence to best practices.
    • Mentor team members on CI/CD patterns, GCP services, and release engineering practices.
  • DevOps Ownership
    • Take end-to-end ownership of platform services from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and production support.
    • Partner closely with development, SRE, Cloud Platform, security, operations, product, and platform stakeholders to align priorities and resolve dependencies.
    • Own security vulnerability remediation across team repositories, including CVE triage, dependency upgrades, and Engineering Portal security updates.
  • Documentation
    • Create and maintain documentation for deployment processes, pipeline architecture, operational runbooks, and automation workflows.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of professional software development or platform/release engineering experience.
  • Deep expertise in JavaScript/Node.js or Python for automation and tooling.
  • Extensive experience with CI/CD practices, pipeline design, and software delivery automation.
  • Proficiency with version control systems like GitHub and work tracking systems like JIRA.
  • Understanding of cloud technologies (GCP preferred) and DevOps principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform — specifically Firestore, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, and Compute.
  • Experience automating Windows server environments using Ansible and PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with GitHub Actions, including reusable workflows and self-hosted runner management.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud and on-premises deployment environments.
  • Familiarity with IIS, MSI packaging, and Windows service lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of agile development methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
