About the Opportunity
Our client is embarking on a large-scale cloud modernization journey and is seeking an experienced Public Cloud Architect (AWS) to help shape and lead the evolution of their cloud ecosystem. This is a highly visible opportunity to build foundational cloud capabilities in an environment that is still relatively early in its cloud transformation, making this a true greenfield architecture role.
The architect will play a critical role in designing and implementing enterprise AWS solutions that support the modernization of supply chain technology platforms while establishing cloud governance, security, and operational best practices.
This position offers the opportunity to influence cloud strategy from the ground up, working closely with technology leadership and business stakeholders to create scalable, secure, and modern cloud-native solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and architect enterprise-scale AWS cloud solutions aligned with business and technology objectives.
- Lead cloud platform development from the ground up, establishing foundational architecture, standards, and best practices.
- Define and implement cloud governance, security controls, policies, and identity/access management frameworks.
- Partner closely with supply chain technology teams to modernize critical applications and infrastructure.
- Build and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform.
- Design highly available, scalable, and secure cloud environments.
- Architect and support containerized workloads utilizing Kubernetes and Amazon EKS.
- Establish cloud security frameworks leveraging AWS-native security tools and services.
- Drive cloud adoption strategies, operational excellence, and automation initiatives across the organization.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve deployment automation, platform reliability, and cloud operations.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure architecture, or cloud platform design.
- Deep expertise in AWS architecture, including:
- Cloud infrastructure design
- Security architecture
- Identity and Access Management (IAM)
- Networking
- Governance and policy implementation
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience designing and deploying Kubernetes-based solutions, preferably with Amazon EKS.
- Expertise with AWS security services and cloud security best practices, including:
- IAM
- Security Hub
- Cloud security monitoring and governance
- Experience leading architecture and implementation efforts within complex enterprise environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across technical and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous software engineering or application development background.
- Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines.
- Proficiency with Git and modern DevOps practices.
- Exposure to large-scale cloud spend environments and enterprise cloud operations.
- AWS certifications such as:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
- AWS Certified Security – Specialty
Ideal Background
The ideal candidate will come from a large, complex enterprise environment where AWS has been a primary cloud platform. Experience within highly regulated or sophisticated technology organizations is particularly attractive, including:
- Financial Services
- Banking
- Fortune 500 enterprises
- Large-scale technology organizations
Examples include firms such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and other organizations operating mature AWS environments.
Additional Considerations:
- Stable career progression with demonstrated tenure (typically 2-5+ years per role).
- Direct full-time employment experience preferred.
- Consulting or long-term contract-heavy backgrounds will be less competitive.
Why This Role?
This is a rare opportunity to help define the future-state cloud architecture of an enterprise investing heavily in modernization. The architect will have significant influence over platform design, security standards, cloud operations, and the technology roadmap while helping transform critical supply chain systems on AWS.
