Overview of the Team
Product engineering is responsible for the development of products and services focusing on digital telecommunication and API development. The team is organized into several Agile scrum teams for planning, development, and validation of Connexus Unigy among other products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Use AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) as a daily force multiplier to accelerate design, implementation, refactoring, debugging, and delivery—while maintaining production-grade quality standards.
- Operate effectively in an agentic workflow loop (plan → implement → run tests/commands → verify → iterate) and consistently provide the AI with clear success criteria (tests, expected outputs, reproducible steps).
- Create and maintain reusable AI automation assets (e.g., project Skills / slash commands, repo instruction files) that encode team runbooks and reduce repeated prompting and manual toil.
- Standardize high-throughput workflows by capturing repeatable procedures (build, deploy, smoke test, dependency updates, migrations, release steps) into version-controlled AI “Skills” / playbooks and improving them over time.
- Use AI-assisted code review and change validation to increase PR throughput (reviewing diffs, identifying risks, and validating changes against ticket acceptance criteria where available).
- Integrate AI workflows with engineering systems (e.g., Jira/Confluence/Bitbucket) by securely providing structured context (tickets/specs/links) and automating routine engineering updates where appropriate.
- Actively manage AI context to sustain speed (scoping relevant files, minimizing noise, summarizing/compacting sessions) to keep the agent accurate and efficient on large codebases.
- Apply secure, compliant AI usage practices (no sensitive data leakage, IP-safe prompting, validation gates for generated code) and follow defined guardrails for AI-assisted development.
- Instrument and communicate impact by tracking practical outcomes (cycle time reductions, fewer rework loops, improved test coverage, faster incident triage) attributable to AI-assisted workflows.
- Demonstrate advanced Java/J2EE programming skills, including deep understanding of Spring Boot, design patterns, and object-oriented architecture.
- Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs following OpenAPI specifications, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
- Create, review, and maintain functional and design specifications, driving implementations from concept to validation with minimal supervision.
- Architect, deploy, and troubleshoot containerized microservices in Kubernetes environments using Helm for configuration management and release automation.
- Collaborate with software developers, test engineers, Service Delivery, Product Management, and external partners to ensure product quality, reliability, and maintainability.
- Utilize and promote workflow and collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence, Jira, BMC/Remedy) to manage development, testing, and release activities efficiently.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills—able to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organization.
- Exhibit team-oriented leadership and mentoring skills, fostering collaboration and technical excellence across teams.
- Apply comprehensive problem-solving and debugging techniques, identifying both standard and innovative solutions to technical challenges.
- Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based systems, utilizing shell scripting and platform triage tools for local and remote diagnostics.
- Leverage expertise in IP networking, SIP, and RTP protocols, employing tools such as Wireshark for analysis and troubleshooting.
- Develop and maintain data persistence layers with MySQL, including schema design, query optimization, and secure data replication over SSL.
- Design, deploy, and optimize applications on WebLogic and OCCAS (Oracle Communications Converged Application Server) platforms.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC), DevOps practices, and automated testing methodologies to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Contribute to system architecture discussions, review peer designs, and provide technical leadership in evolving the product stack.
How You Will Make an Impact:
You will have the opportunity to influence what and how IPC’s products evolve. Measurements of success will be based on successful and timely releases, with high quality, and continued remediation of defects.
Essential Skills and Experience to be Successful in this Role:
- Bachelor’sDegree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent in experience. Master’s Degree is preferable.
- At least 5 years experience in a technical lead role.

- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, and coordinate development across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and require minimal supervision.
- Experience in high-performance application development.
- Experience building distributed and highly available solutions.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Proven ability to design and produce high-quality functional and technical specifications with minimal supervision, breaking down complex implementations into clear, actionable components.
- Ability to author and evolve team-level AI standards and guardrails (what’s allowed, how to verify, how to prevent low-quality code/tech debt) and coach others to adopt them.
- Experience creating internal “Innovation Templates” / starter repos that pair standardized service scaffolding with AI Skills to speed new service creation.
- Experience integrating AI tooling into review workflows (AI-generated PR descriptions, automated review checklists, change-risk analysis, ticket-context checks).
- Familiarity with measuring AI-assisted engineering effectiveness (utilization, impact on delivery/quality, and cost/overhead tradeoffs) and adjusting workflows based on data.
- Strong hands-on experience designing and developing RESTful APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and OpenAPI specifications.
- Solid understanding of containerized deployments using Kubernetes and Helm, with experience in managing scalable microservices environments.
- In-depth knowledge of the MySQL database, including schema design, performance optimization, access control, and secure data replication over SSL.
