Platform Engineer

Caspian One is partnering with a top‑tier financial institution on a major platform engineering initiative and is looking to hire experienced Senior Platform Engineers (Backend‑Focused) to support the evolution of its internal developer platform.

This opportunity sits within a large, global engineering organisation, focused on improving developer experience, strengthening platform capabilities, and delivering scalable backend systems used by thousands of engineers across the bank.

Role Responsibilities;

• Design and build backend services and APIs that underpin the internal developer platform
• Translate complex engineering problems into robust system designs and production‑ready code
• Contribute to platform components supporting hybrid on‑prem and cloud environments
• Improve reliability and observability across distributed systems
• Collaborate with SRE, DevOps and platform teams to enhance performance, scalability and engineering standards
• Provide technical leadership within a coding‑first, engineering‑led culture

Key Experience Required;

• Strong hands‑on backend engineering in Java, Node.js or Python
• Proven experience building APIs and distributed systems at scale
• Solid understanding of HTTP, DNS, TLS, load balancing, gateways and service mesh
• Exposure to containers, Kubernetes and Docker
• Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry or similar observability tooling
• Ability to independently deliver system design, architectural decisions and end‑to‑end solutions

Additional Context;

• Platform Engineering / SRE / DevOps exposure is beneficial, but this is a coding‑first role
• Experience in large enterprise or regulated environments is advantageous
• Strong communication skills and ability to operate within globally distributed teams
• Opportunity to influence engineering standards across a major organisation

Location & Working Pattern;

• Sheffield‑based
• Hybrid model (approximately 3 days onsite)
