Role Description The Software Engineer/Data Scientist for the Data Integration Center (DIC) will design, develop, and maintain software solutions that support data integration, processing, and analysis across clinical and research systems. Day-to-day tasks include building and optimizing back-end services and APIs, implementing data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and collaborating with interdisciplinary stakeholders to translate medical and research requirements into robust technical solutions. The role involves developing and documenting software components, contributing to system architecture decisions, and supporting the deployment and monitoring of applications in production environments. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Bonn, with a combination of on-site work at University Hospital Bonn and some flexibility for remote work from home.
Qualifications
- Solid foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, including understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles.
- Proficiency in Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), with experience in at least one modern programming language commonly used for back-end or data-focused applications, including, in particular, Java, ideally also including Spring Boot & Security.
- Experience in Back-End Web Development, including RESTful APIs, integration with databases, and secure, scalable server-side architectures.
- Understanding of data management and integration concepts, such as ETL processes, data modeling, and working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
- Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, communicate technical concepts clearly, and collaborate with clinical and research stakeholders.
- Experience or strong interest in healthcare, medical informatics, or research data management is beneficial and willingness to learn state-of-the-art healthcare interoperability based on FHIR
- Bachelor’s or (preferred) master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), test-driven development, and modern development workflows; experience with containerization or cloud environments is a plus.
