Java Software Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Java engineer with strong distributed systems and networking knowledge to help improve the way Java applications communicate, integrate and operate at scale. The role sits within a platform engineering team and involves hands-on development, technical investigation, collaboration with infrastructure teams and support for application developers adopting firm-wide standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain reusable Java platform libraries and frameworks.
• Improve service-to-service communication patterns for Java applications.
• Investigate and resolve JVM, networking, connectivity and runtime issues.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, networking and security teams on platform integration.
• Create reference implementations, developer guidance and technical documentation.
• Evaluate open-source technologies and contribute to Java platform modernization, including cloud and container adoption.
• Partner with application teams to drive platform improvements and adoption.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical reviews and engineering best practices.
• Leverage AI-powered (agentic) coding tools to improve development productivity through prototyping, testing, documentation and code exploration

Required Skills

• Strong Java development experience.
• Solid understanding of JVM internals, memory management and multithreaded programming.
• Experience building or supporting distributed systems.
• Good knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/mTLS, load balancing, service discovery and connection management).
• Experience with Spring and Spring Boot.
• Comfortable working on Linux and troubleshooting application/runtime issues.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Kubernetes, Docker and cloud-native technologies.
• API gateways, service mesh, Netty, gRPC or OpenAPI.
• JVM performance tuning and monitoring.
• Authentication and authorization technologies.
• CI/CD, build tools and developer platforms.
• Experience with Python, C++ or scripting languages.
• Experience developing shared libraries, frameworks or platform services.
