Title: Identity Software Engineer

Location: Orange County, CA, Washington, DC, or fully remote (USA)

Pay: $140,000 - $215,000/year, depends on experience level

Summary

Lorien has an exciting opportunity for an Identity Software Engineer to join our Defense Technology client on a direct hire basis. In this role, you'll build critical security and authorization infrastructure that protects the systems behind advanced defense technology products. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of software engineering experience and thrives in a fast-paced environment & enjoys autonomy/owning work end-to-end.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build a company-wide identity platform from scratch, from early solutioning through hands-on build, working alongside the broader Security Engineering team to protect the infrastructure the business runs on
• Unify identity across a mix of providers, cloud environments, and internal tools so the company operates on one consistent identity model instead of a patchwork
• Automate the full identity lifecycle, including onboarding, access recertification, and offboarding, to cut down on manual work
• Translate the company's identity and access policies into real, working software that other teams can build on top of
• Work closely with fellow identity engineers and cross-functional partners, shipping in small, fast iterations that match a move-quickly culture rather than long release cycles

Required Qualifications:

• Strong hands-on experience in a systems-level language such as Go or Rust
• Production experience provisioning infrastructure as code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or similar)
• Experience supporting the rollout of enterprise AI platforms (e.g., Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, or similar), including identity, access, and governance considerations.
• Working knowledge of identity standards and providers: OAuth, SAML, SCIM, OIDC, Okta, or Azure AD
• A track record of writing clean, well-structured code that holds up as systems grow
• Comfort leading technical direction, including running or shaping design and architecture conversations
• Real-world experience with CI/CD deployment pipelines on modern cloud infrastructure
• A self-starter mentality, able to run with initiatives independently while staying aligned with other teams
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance

Nice to Have:

• Comfortable working in AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Experience building custom, ground-up solutions inside fast-moving, technically demanding organizations
• Familiarity with access-control models (RBAC, ABAC) or policy-as-code tools like OPA or Cedar
• Experience diagnosing and resolving complex identity/access issues spanning multiple systems
