Software Engineer

Position Overview

Hive + Co has a permanent opportunity with our client in Columbus,Ohio for an experienced Senior Software Developer to join a collaborative team responsible for developing and maintaining mission-critical, customer-facing enterprise applications.

This role will focus on full-stack development, working across front-end user interfaces and back-end business logic running on Tomcat application servers. You'll play a key role in delivering new application features, supporting production environments, maintaining GIS databases, and solving complex technical challenges that directly impact customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications supporting customer-facing systems.
• Develop new features and enhancements for future software releases.
• Troubleshoot, resolve, and support production issues and participate in an on-call production support rotation.
• Collaborate with Business Systems Analysts, QA teams, and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure successful delivery.
• Maintain ESRI/ArcGIS databases and supporting scripts.
• Design scalable technical solutions and participate in architecture discussions.
• Evaluate new technologies, development tools, and third-party products.
• Develop proof-of-concept solutions for complex technical initiatives.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies while supporting waterfall or project-based initiatives as needed.
• Maintain production and lower environment map data databases.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and best practices.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 7 years of enterprise Java (JEE) development experience.
• Strong experience developing applications on Tomcat application servers.
• Hands-on experience with the ESRI GIS platform, including:
• ArcGIS Pro
• ArcGIS Server
• Publishing and managing GIS services
• Experience working with spatial databases and Microsoft SQL Server.

Proficiency in:

• Java
• Python
• JavaScript
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or LLM-based coding assistants to improve development efficiency and code quality.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with one or more modern application frameworks:
• Spring Boot
• Angular
• React
• Vue.js
• Experience working within both Agile and traditional project delivery methodologies.
