Description and Requirements
The Team You Will Join
Join the nation's largest non-medical carrier of group insurance, where your work will impact over 55,000 customers and cover more than 50 million employees and family members. As part of MetLife's Group Benefits team, you'll deliver innovative benefits solutions - life, disability, dental, vision, and voluntary benefits - tailored to today's employers and workforces. Collaborate with customers, brokers, and partners to expand our offerings and reimagine digital experiences. Join us and be part of an organization committed to supporting customers when they need us most.
The Opportunity
The AVP, Strategy and Planning will serve as the Strategy Lead that owns strategic alignment and program governance across key Regional Business workstreams. Governance across key strategic programs. The role ensures strategic alignment and owns governance across key programs in Underwriting, Pricing, Sales and underlying AI and Tech initiatives - tracking progress against the market and financial plan, surfacing risks and dependencies early, and translating workstream-level progress into continuous strategic alignment. Success requires the judgment to hold a coherent strategic view across a highly matrixed, AI-driven transformation, and to know when a workstream-level issue is a program-level risk.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end strategic alignment and program governance for key strategic growth programs across functional teams
  • Maintain tight connectivity with each workstream's dedicated Strategy, ensuring individual initiative strategies ladder up into one coherent strategy.
  • Build and run program reporting and executive communication routines
  • Track alignment of each workstream's progress against outcomes in market and the financial plan
  • Coordinate with AI Citizen Development (AI CD), Agile Delivery Management (ADM), and Data & Analytics (DnA) teams to keep delivery aligned to committed outcomes and timelines.
  • Partner with Solution Product Management to translate program priorities into a prioritized, resourced roadmap.
  • Identify cross-workstream risks, dependencies, and resourcing conflicts before they surface in delivery, and drive resolution with workstream leads.
  • Own the business case and benefits-tracking discipline across initiatives, ensuring claimed benefits are traceable and kept current.
  • Develop and maintain a standard operating rhythm - steering committees, business reviews, OKR check-ins - across the program.
  • Support annual and multi-year planning aligning key initiatives to Regional Business and enterprise strategy.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; MBA or Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years in management consulting, corporate strategy, program/PMO leadership, or business transformation roles.
  • Demonstrated experience running governance and reporting for large, matrixed, multi-workstream transformation programs.
  • Strong financial acumen - comfortable owning business cases, benefits tracking, and expense/PFO models.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence across sales, underwriting, pricing, technology, and data/analytics teams without direct authority.
  • Excellent executive communication skills, with experience preparing materials for and presenting to senior and executive leadership.
  • Familiarity using AI tools in day-to-day workflows.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or employee benefits, particularly Group Benefits or small/mid-market distribution.
  • Prior exposure to underwriting, pricing, or sales transformation programs.
  • Experience working alongside Agile/ADM delivery teams and accelerated AI delivery models.
  • Hands-on exposure to AI tools such as Claude or Copilot (built apps, workflows, or generated code).
  • High agency and ownership mindset, comfortable operating in ambiguity across a fast-moving, AI-native transformation.
  • Strong executive storytelling and presentation skills.

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $165000 - $220000 . This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
