Senior Software Engineer

CORE PROFILE

Senior Back-end Software Engineer for Risk Tech (Fraud & AML). You own backend projects from planning to production—not just assigned coding tasks. You design and build reliable, cost-effective services, make clear technical trade-offs (including design patterns and microservices), and work smoothly with other teams (frontend, backend, platform, and Risk partners). You are comfortable with Agile ways of working. Success means finished projects, strong service quality, and helping the team get better—not how many tickets you close.

NATURE OF WORK

• Own backend projects from start to finish: planning, technical design, build, release, monitoring, and upkeep—not only writing code for someone else’s plan.
• Turn Product and Risk needs into a clear technical design and delivery plan; keep work moving and remove blockers.
• Work across teams (frontend, other backend teams, quality engineering, and platform/infrastructure) to get technical dependencies resolved.
• Join architecture and product discussions and help shape how Fraud & AML capabilities are built.
• Build services that scale, stay reliable, handle risk-related data securely, and are easy to deploy and maintain.
• Create and improve reusable APIs/services for other teams and partners; follow engineering standards for quality, performance, and code style.
• Take an active role in code reviews and production releases; help more junior engineers grow through reviews and pairing.
• Write down useful practices and share knowledge with the Risk Tech engineering team.
• Partner with quality engineering on what to test and when a release is ready for projects you own.
• Help with hiring and team activities as a senior individual contributor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience leading backend or platform projects from design through production—not only implementing assigned features.
• Strong experience building backend services with Java and/or Python on AWS (or a comparable cloud).
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (for example PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB), chosen to fit the service.
• Strong experience designing, building, and using RESTful APIs / backend services at scale.
• Typically 6–10+ years building large-scale internet services, platforms, or backend systems. We look at the scope of work you have owned, not years alone.
• Comfortable with automated testing (for example JUnit, pytest, Jest, or Mocha) and disciplined code review habits.
• Strong experience with Git-based workflows (GitLab/GitHub) and CI/CD.
• Experience with containers (Docker) and deploying/operating services in the cloud.
• Plus: caching (Redis/Memcached), event-driven systems, and observability (metrics, logs, traces).
• Plus: Fraud, AML, or broader Risk experience in banking or fintech.
• Plus: enough frontend familiarity to collaborate well with UI teams (frontend coding is not the main expectation).
