Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Spectrum Search is partnered with a well-backed technology company building a highly automated infrastructure environment for performance-critical applications. This is a hands-on infrastructure engineering role for someone equally comfortable designing platform systems, writing Infrastructure as Code and contributing application code where required.

About the opportunity

The company has invested heavily in automation and developer self-service, with infrastructure designed to minimise manual operational work. The focus is not simply on keeping systems running. This engineer will improve reliability, security, latency and developer productivity while helping shape infrastructure standards across the engineering organisation.

The role suits an infrastructure-focused software engineer who is comfortable writing code, working deeply with cloud-native tooling and treating infrastructure as a product.

The role

You will take ownership of highly automated infrastructure built around Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes and modern deployment tooling. You will work closely with application engineers to improve production performance, mature internal developer tooling and enable engineers to provision, deploy, monitor and manage services independently.

The position also offers scope to influence technical direction and grow towards broader technical leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Build, maintain and deploy infrastructure using an Infrastructure as Code first approach
• Develop and improve automated infrastructure tooling and internal developer platforms
• Enable engineering teams to self-serve deployments, infrastructure provisioning, monitoring and alerting
• Improve reliability, security, observability and operational resilience
• Identify and reduce latency across performance-critical systems, including contributing directly to application code
• Maintain and optimise data infrastructure and pipelines for significant scale
• Develop local testing and validation tooling that improves engineering workflows
• Establish and promote strong infrastructure, Kubernetes and security practices
• Assess infrastructure priorities independently and propose high-impact technical improvements
• Work closely with engineers across the organisation to translate requirements into practical infrastructure solutions

Essential requirements

• Strong software engineering capability and confidence writing production-quality code alongside infrastructure work
• Excellent knowledge of core infrastructure concepts including networking, security and access control
• Strong Kubernetes experience and understanding of production Kubernetes best practices
• Hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
• Practical experience with Argo CD, GitHub Actions, Docker, Prometheus and Grafana
• Strong understanding of infrastructure automation and developer self-service
• Security-minded approach to system design and operation
• Ability to communicate technical plans clearly and work effectively across engineering teams
• Comfortable evaluating and using AI-assisted engineering tools while validating outputs and applying appropriate safeguards
• Pragmatic, adaptable approach with the ability to challenge decisions constructively and execute effectively once direction is agreed

• Strong understanding of modern data pipelines and associated engineering practices
• Experience optimising latency-sensitive or performance-critical applications
• Experience building internal developer platforms, infrastructure orchestration or automated testing environments

Location and remote setup

This role is based in New York City. Being located in NYC is a mandatory requirement for the position.
