About the Client
Our client is a US SaaS company providing digital products and large scale website infrastructure for the real estate industry. Its Product and Engineering team operates a 24/7 production hosting platform and is increasingly using AI assisted engineering and automation to change how software development, infrastructure and operational work are performed.
About the Role
This role is ideal if you come from a traditional Computer Science and software engineering background, enjoy writing code, but are equally interested in infrastructure, DevOps, systems and security. The client is looking for roughly a 50/50 developer and DevOps profile rather than someone who has spent their entire career exclusively in operations.
You will be the primary Platform and DevOps owner within a small engineering team, while remaining close enough to software development to make changes directly in code when this is the best way to solve a problem. The wider objective is to automate traditional Ops work wherever possible, particularly as AI development tools increasingly make infrastructure, deployment and operational workflows programmable and accessible to the broader engineering team.
You will use Cursor exclusively to write code and to provision and interact with AWS and our platform tooling. Cursor is the only user interface. If that sounds wrong to you, this role is not a fit.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own and maintain large scale 24/7 production website hosting platform, with uptime, reliability and recoverability as core responsibilities.
- Manage and improve AWS infrastructure across services including ECS, ECR, EC2, CloudFront, RDS, Route 53 and S3.
- Work directly with application engineers to design and provision infrastructure as new product and engineering requirements emerge.
- Build, maintain and improve CI/CD workflows using GitHub, Octopus Deploy and related deployment tooling.
- Work directly in software and infrastructure code, including ECS migrations, environment configuration, application configuration and other infrastructure related engineering work.
- Build automation that allows application engineers to perform routine operational work themselves, including provisioning AWS infrastructure, creating CI/CD pipelines and running complex log searches.
- Use Cursor as the primary engineering interface for writing code, working with AWS and interacting with platform tooling, while developing reusable Cursor skills and AI driven engineering workflows for the wider team.
- Own production observability across logging, metrics and alerting using technologies including Grafana, Loki, Alloy and Prometheus.
- Maintain and improve platform and edge security using technologies such as WAF, fail2ban and broader Linux and infrastructure hardening practices.
- Troubleshoot Linux systems, application infrastructure, production incidents, performance problems and unexpected failures, taking responsibility for diagnosing and restoring services.
- Manage integrations and operational dependencies involving services such as SendGrid, Twilio and Fingerprint.
- Monitor AWS and infrastructure expenditure, understand technical cost tradeoffs and help keep platform spending within agreed budgets.
- Contribute to the application codebase where appropriate rather than treating development and infrastructure as completely separate disciplines.
What You Should Bring
- A Computer Science degree or comparable technical university background is strongly preferred.
- Mid to senior level professional engineering experience, with meaningful exposure to both software development and production infrastructure.
- Strong programming ability and the ability to read, understand, modify and ship production code rather than working exclusively through infrastructure consoles and configuration tools.
- Hands on AWS experience, ideally including ECS, ECR, EC2, CloudFront, RDS, Route 53 and S3.
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles, production systems, CI/CD, deployment workflows and infrastructure automation.
- Strong Linux systems administration and troubleshooting skills, including an understanding of processes, networking, performance, security and production failure modes.
- Experience with observability, logging and monitoring platforms such as Grafana, Loki, Alloy, Prometheus or comparable technologies.
- A practical understanding of infrastructure and application security, including WAFs, host hardening and protecting internet facing production systems.
- Comfort working directly with software engineers and moving between development, infrastructure, deployment, security and operational problems.
- Strong interest in AI assisted software development and willingness to use Cursor as the primary interface for coding, AWS and platform work.
- Excellent English communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- The ability to take ownership of production problems without relying on detailed instructions or an established runbook for every situation.
Bonus If You Have
- Previous experience in a role combining software engineering, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps responsibilities.
- Experience building internal developer tooling, self service infrastructure, reusable automation or AI assisted engineering workflows.
- Experience with SendGrid, Twilio, Fingerprint, Octopus Deploy or similar production services and tooling.
- Experience managing infrastructure costs and making technical decisions that balance reliability, performance and AWS expenditure.
What You Get
- Private health insurance
- 20 days annual leave
- Company provided laptop with IT support
- Paid candidate referral program
- Access to international teams, mentorship, and growth paths
- Flexibility to work remotely
Interview Process
Shortlisted candidates contacted within a week of applying. 2 to 3 weeks for decision following 1st interview.
