Managing Director / Country Manager / Senior Business Development Executive - Poland – International eSIM & Telecommunications
Indexed description
WGR Consulting is conducting an executive search on behalf of an established international entrepreneurial group active in telecommunications, digital connectivity and mobile services.
We are looking for a senior executive who will lead the development of two new businesses from Poland.
This is a highly entrepreneurial role combining the responsibilities of a Country Manager, Managing Director and Senior Business Development Executive.
The successful candidate will build the Polish organization from the ground up, develop commercial operations and strategic partnerships, create and lead the local team and progressively assume responsibility for the P&L.
The position also has a strong international dimension: Poland will become the operational center of a global eSIM and digital connectivity business.
THE MANDATE
The selected executive will lead the development of two complementary businesses:
International eSIM & Digital Connectivity
A digital-first business focused on international eSIMs, mobile data and connectivity services. From its operational base in Poland, it will address global markets through direct-to-consumer, B2B and B2B2C channels.
The Managing Director will help define and execute its international growth strategy, including customer acquisition, digital distribution, partnerships, positioning and commercial development.
Polish Telecommunications Business
A newly established telecommunications operation focused on mobile and fixed-line services, SIM/eSIM, Internet connectivity and related services for consumer and business customers.
The role will lead its development in Poland while working closely with the group's existing telecommunications organization abroad.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Setup & Leadership
• Support completion of the Polish corporate and operational setup.
• Translate the shareholders' vision into a clear market-entry and execution plan.
• Build the local organization, processes, budgets, operating model and KPI framework.
• Coordinate external legal, regulatory, accounting and tax advisers.
• Support the regulatory and licensing roadmap with specialized advisers.
• Identify and manage key suppliers, telecom providers and wholesale partners.
• Build a scalable operating structure capable of supporting future growth.
Commercial & Business Development
• Define and execute go-to-market strategies.
• Take direct responsibility for business development, strategic partnerships and key negotiations.
• Develop relationships with telecom operators, MNOs, MVNOs, wholesale connectivity providers and distributors.
• Build B2B and B2B2C opportunities across travel, fintech, payments, corporate and digital ecosystems.
• Develop relationships with airlines, airports, tour operators, travel agencies, OTAs, banks, fintechs, retailers, marketplaces and digital platforms.
• Build and manage a structured commercial pipeline from prospecting to contracting and launch.
• Personally lead critical commercial discussions during the initial development phase.
International eSIM Growth
• Define global customer acquisition and growth strategies.
• Develop the international positioning of the eSIM business.
• Identify priority markets, customer segments and distribution channels.
• Build strategic B2B, B2B2C, affiliate and distribution partnerships.
• Work with marketing resources on digital and performance marketing.
• Optimize acquisition, conversion, retention, monetization and marketing ROI.
• Build a disciplined, data-driven growth model.
Polish Telecom Development
• Lead the operational development of the Polish telecom business.
• Define the commercial and marketing strategy for Poland.
• Establish relationships with local telecom operators, providers, distributors and partners.
• Support the licensing and regulatory process.
• Adapt relevant know-how and commercial models to the Polish market.
• Build the local team progressively as the business develops.
P&L & PERFORMANCE OWNERSHIP
The selected executive will progressively assume direct responsibility for financial performance within the approved Business Plan, budgets and delegated authority.
Key metrics will include revenue, gross margin, EBITDA, active customers, Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC), Lifetime Value (LTV), conversion, retention/churn, marketing ROI, partnership performance, budget control and achievement of Business Plan milestones.
The role will have significant operating autonomy across commercial execution, recruitment, suppliers, marketing activities, operational costs and partnerships within the agreed framework.
BUILD THE TEAM
The initial organization will be deliberately lean. The successful candidate must therefore be comfortable operating personally and hands-on rather than relying on an already established structure.
As the business grows, the Managing Director will recruit and lead a local team initially covering Business Development, Strategic Partnerships, Sales, Digital/Performance Marketing and Operations.
The role will work closely with ownership and central resources across technology, product, finance, marketing, legal and regulatory matters.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
We are looking for a senior commercial executive with approximately 10–15 years of professional experience, including substantial experience in business development, commercial leadership or growth roles.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
• Proven experience launching a business, entering a new market or building a commercial operation from an early stage.
• Strong business development and strategic partnership experience.
• Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• Experience building and managing teams.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, including budgets, KPIs and P&L.
• Ability to combine strategy with hands-on execution.
• High autonomy, ownership and accountability.
• Strong understanding of the Polish business environment.
• Experience working with international shareholders or management teams.
Previous experience as a Country Manager, Managing Director, General Manager or senior commercial executive with P&L responsibility will be highly valued.
PREFERRED INDUSTRY BACKGROUND
Relevant experience may come from telecommunications, MNO/MVNO, eSIM and digital connectivity, travel-tech, digital services, e-commerce, fintech, payments or international technology scale-ups.
Direct telecommunications or eSIM experience is highly desirable, but outstanding candidates from adjacent digital sectors who have successfully built or scaled a business will also be considered.
Experience in a genuine zero-to-one, market-entry or rapid scale-up environment will be particularly valued.
LEADERSHIP STYLE
We are particularly interested in executives who are:
• Entrepreneurial and highly hands-on.
• Commercially driven and results-oriented.
• Comfortable operating in an initially unstructured environment.
• Able to build teams, processes and organizations from scratch.
• Strong negotiators and relationship builders.
• Financially disciplined and data-driven.
• Strategic while remaining strongly execution-focused.
• Comfortable working directly with shareholders and senior management.
• Willing to personally handle operational activities during the initial phase.
We are looking for a builder, not simply a caretaker of an existing organization.
EDUCATION & LANGUAGES
• University degree preferred; professional achievements and relevant experience will carry significant weight.
• Polish: native or fluent.
• English: fluent and mandatory.
• Italian: an advantage, but not required.
LOCATION & TRAVEL
The role is based in Warsaw with a hybrid/flexible working model. A strong and continuous operational presence in Poland is required.
Regular international travel will be expected, particularly to the group's headquarters and to markets and partners relevant to the international eSIM business. Travel within Poland will also be required.
COMPENSATION & CONTRACT
The client offers flexibility between:
• Employment contract
• B2B agreement
• Executive management contract may also be considered
The package will include competitive fixed compensation plus a significant performance-related bonus linked to business results.
Additional benefits may include business equipment, travel expenses, private healthcare, car/car allowance, executive development support and, for selected candidates, a potential long-term incentive arrangement.
WHY CONSIDER THIS OPPORTUNITY?
This role offers an unusual level of entrepreneurial ownership and the opportunity to:
• Build two businesses rather than inherit an established organization.
• Work directly with ownership.
• Influence strategy, commercial development, marketing, organization and recruitment.
• Develop an international eSIM business from its operational base in Poland.
• Build a new telecommunications operation in the Polish market.
• Progressively assume direct P&L responsibility.
• Shape the organization from an early stage and grow with the business internationally.
The recruitment process is managed exclusively by WGR Consulting.
