Assistant Vice President, Project Management Office

The key purpose of this position is to provide strategic leadership and oversight of Purdue Federal's Project Management Office by ensuring enterprise initiatives are prioritized, governed, resourced, and successfully delivered in alignment with organizational goals. This position works closely with executive leadership, business units, Information Technology, and external vendors to drive project execution, support organizational change, improve operational effectiveness, and provide visibility into enterprise project performance and strategic outcomes.Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):Responsible for managing the enterprise project portfolio and PMO governance process. This includes:
  • Translating organizational strategy into project priorities, departmental objectives, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Leading the project intake, evaluation, prioritization, and governance processes.
  • Administering and continuously improving Purdue Federal's project prioritization model (P0-P3).
  • Monitoring project and portfolio health, including risks, dependencies, resource constraints, timelines, and expected outcomes.
  • Providing executive leadership with recommendations, project updates, portfolio reporting, and decision-support information.
  • Leading or sponsoring complex, cross-functional initiatives that support strategic objectives.
Responsible for leading and developing PMO team members. This includes:
  • Providing leadership, coaching, mentoring, and professional development for Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Business Analysts, and other assigned staff.
  • Establishing performance expectations and promoting accountability across the PMO team.
  • Supporting employee growth through feedback, coaching, training, and development opportunities.
  • Managing team workload, capacity planning, succession planning, and resource allocation.
  • Building a collaborative and high-performing team culture aligned with Purdue Federal's mission, vision, and values.
Responsible for supporting cross-functional collaboration and organizational change initiatives. This includes:
  • Partnering with executive leadership, business units, Information Technology, vendors, and project teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Facilitating communication, stakeholder engagement, adoption readiness, and implementation planning for enterprise initiatives.
  • Establishing clear accountability, decision-making processes, and escalation pathways for project teams.
  • Supporting organizational change management efforts to improve project success and adoption outcomes.
  • Promoting collaboration, integrity, service excellence, and shared organizational accountability.
Responsible for PMO operations, resource planning, and reporting. This includes:
  • Overseeing staffing, project resource allocation, workload balancing, and capacity planning.
  • Collaborating with Finance, Information Technology, and business leaders on project funding, resource requirements, and implementation schedules.
  • Managing PMO tools, processes, templates, vendors, and governance standards.
  • Developing and presenting executive dashboards, portfolio reports, status updates, and performance metrics.
  • Ensuring project documentation, governance requirements, and PMO standards are consistently followed.
Responsible for continuous improvement, risk management, and portfolio performance. This includes:
  • Evaluating project and portfolio performance using data, metrics, and reporting insights.
  • Identifying risks, dependencies, and obstacles that may impact project success.
  • Developing mitigation strategies and escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Leveraging technology platforms and reporting tools to improve visibility, workflow management, and decision-making.
  • Documenting lessons learned and incorporating best practices into future projects and PMO processes.
Responsible for professional development and organizational leadership. This includes:
  • Maintaining knowledge of project management, portfolio management, organizational change management, and industry best practices.
  • Participating in training, certifications, and professional development activities.
  • Supporting Purdue Federal's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities through leadership and professional conduct.

  • Technology Skills - Proficiency with Microsoft Project, SharePoint, Microsoft Office, and related project management and reporting platforms.
  • Change Management Knowledge - Understanding of stakeholder engagement, organizational change management, process optimization, and adoption planning.
  • Vendor and Financial Management Skills - Ability to oversee vendor relationships, contracts, project budgets, and external service providers.
  • Compliance and Governance Knowledge - Ability to ensure project governance, documentation standards, and organizational policies are consistently followed.
