Position Summary
The Chief Church Multiplication Officer (CCMO) is a full-time senior leadership role responsible for leading and advancing the Church Multiplication vision of the Reformed Church in America (RCA). The CCMO will catalyze a church planting movement throughout North America while building partnerships and networks that connect with global planting efforts. Working in collaboration with RCA leaders, middle assemblies, congregations, partner denominations and networks, and fellow Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) members, the CCMO will build, strengthen, and implement the vision, strategy, systems, staffing plan, funding pathways, assessment processes, coaching and training networks, accountability and sustainability mechanisms, and overall capacity needed to plant 1,500 churches and missional communities in the next 10 years, reflective of the RCA’s Revelation 7:9 initiative.
Responsibilities And Essential Duties
- Create, develop, maintain, and implement a strategic plan for the church multiplication department, utilizing the Vision Traction Organizer (VTO) tool and including a core focus, guiding verse, strategy, three-year picture, 10-year target, marketing strategy, and a one-year traction list of goals that are in alignment with the overall organizational goals. Working within the general secretary’s vision, the CCMO ensures fulfillment of the ends policies established by the General Synod Council (GSC) related to church multiplication.
- Empower middle assemblies in their church planting efforts by developing and maintaining systems, structures, and processes to support them. Partner with middle assemblies to develop a holistic church multiplication approach that includes identifying church planters and parent congregations, training church planters, creating sustainable funding models, etc., that result in the widespread planting and organization of congregations. Work with middle assemblies that have an established track record of church planting, as well as middle assemblies exploring planting for the first time.
- Design and implement stage-gated church multiplication pathways, including discernment, planter assessment, parent/sending church and middle assembly assessments, contextual research, training, funding readiness, coaching, launch, post-launch sustainability, organization, and reproduction/ongoing multiplication.
- Provide strategic leadership for the development and coordination of coaching and training networks and pipelines that support middle assemblies, church planters, and multiplication leaders.
- Facilitate learning communities, gatherings and collaborative spaces that equip leaders, share best practices, and encourage innovation in church multiplication. Program event(s) for denominational leaders who are interested in church planting to spark interest among potential church planters and strengthen the RCA’s church multiplication network.
- Oversee the administration of church multiplication initiatives and budget; ensuring grants, funding, and resources are distributed accurately and equitably.
- In partnership with Advancement, cultivate relationships with funders, donors, and congregations to support the ongoing church multiplication movement.
- Serve as executive sponsor for church multiplication funding and grant implementation, partnering closely with Advancement, Finance, the Church Growth Fund, Middle Assemblies, congregations, and program partners to form relationships that ensure accountability, grant project execution, restricted-fund and donor intent governance, budget controls, compliance, reporting and milestone tracking, evaluation, ongoing funder relationship management, and stewardship of denominational resources.
- In connection with the director of discipleship and church revitalization, develop and implement strategies and systems to ensure the sustainability of new church plants through the implementation of discipleship, church revitalization, and innovation models and programs.
- Provide vision to recruit, retain, supervise, align, continually develop, and lead a scalable church multiplication team.
- Serve as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Commitment to the mission and vision of the Reformed Church in America.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in church planting and church multiplication leadership, and a demonstrated record of catalyzing multiple church plants at the church, middle assembly, region and/or denominational levels.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and demonstrated experience creating and building systems, including staff development, budget creation, operating rhythms, workflows, policies, dashboards, and accountability structures.
- At least 10 years of experience in managing budgets, with particular expertise in leading, supervising, and administering restricted and/or grant-funded programs, including multi-year budgets, compliance, reporting, evaluation, and funder communication..
- Demonstrated ability to appropriately problem solve while working independently and as a team player; vision casting capability, leadership selection ability, team development, and utilizing the giftedness of others.
- Proactive approach to responsibilities and projects.
- High capacity for management of multiple activities and relationships, communication channels and information flow.
- Experience with planter assessment training, equipping planters, and parent churches.
- Ability to travel up to 40 days annually.
- Proven ability to build trust, common purpose, and shared direction across diverse theological, cultural, generational, and methodological perspectives on church planting .
- Working knowledge of RCA polity and structures.
- Experience with coach training.
- Fundraising and donor-relations fluency.
- Data and evaluation literacy, including the ability to define outcomes, track pipeline metrics, interpret learning, and communicate results to denominational leaders and funders.
