A leading Indianapolis employer is looking to bring on a Senior Program Manager/Portfolio Director to their team. The Program Manager / Portfolio Director is responsible for leading an enterprise portfolio of strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals and business priorities. This role oversees multiple cross-functional programs and projects, ensuring successful planning, execution, governance, financial management, and value realization across the portfolio.
The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with extensive experience managing complex technology and business transformation initiatives. This individual will partner closely with executive leadership, business stakeholders, and technical teams to prioritize investments, manage risks, optimize resources, and ensure programs are delivered on time, within budget, and with measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Leadership
- Lead the governance, planning, prioritization, and execution of an enterprise portfolio of strategic initiatives.
- Establish portfolio roadmaps aligned with corporate strategy and organizational objectives.
- Evaluate new initiatives, develop business cases, and recommend investment priorities.
- Monitor portfolio health, balancing scope, budget, timeline, resources, and strategic value.
- Drive portfolio reporting through executive dashboards, KPIs, and performance metrics.
Program Management
- Direct multiple complex programs simultaneously from initiation through implementation.
- Develop integrated program plans, schedules, dependencies, and resource strategies.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams across technology, operations, finance, and business units.
- Identify risks, dependencies, and issues while proactively developing mitigation strategies.
- Ensure consistent application of project management methodologies, governance, and best practices.
Executive Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary liaison between executive leadership and delivery teams.
- Present program status, risks, financial updates, and recommendations to executive leadership.
- Facilitate steering committee meetings and executive governance reviews.
- Build trusted partnerships with business leaders to ensure alignment on priorities and outcomes.
Financial & Resource Management
- Manage portfolio budgets, forecasts, capital expenditures, and operational spending.
- Optimize resource allocation across multiple initiatives.
- Track financial performance and ensure programs remain within approved budgets.
- Develop capacity planning and resource forecasting models.
Governance & Process Improvement
- Establish and continuously improve PMO standards, governance processes, and delivery frameworks.
- Drive consistency across project documentation, reporting, change management, and quality assurance.
- Develop standardized portfolio metrics and executive reporting.
- Promote Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery methodologies where appropriate.
Leadership
- Mentor Program Managers, Project Managers, Business Analysts, and PMO staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Support organizational change management and executive communications.
- Build high-performing teams focused on customer and business outcomes.
