Managing Director, Founder Advisory

Workplace type: Open to Negotiation - Remote / Hybrid / On-site

Job type: Flexible - Full-time/ Part-time/ Fixed-term

Our Client is looking for a senior practice leader to work with founder-led organisations as they scale. This role sits at the intersection of executive coaching, leadership advisory, and practice leadership, helping founders and senior teams improve decision quality, strengthen governance, and create greater execution coherence across growing businesses.

This is not a general corporate Managing Director role for the whole company. It is a focused leadership role within our client’s executive coaching and founder advisory practice, with responsibility for shaping high-value client work, leading senior coaching and advisory engagements, and helping founder-led organisations build the leadership systems required for sustainable scale.

The Client or Stakeholder Problem You’ll Help Solve

Founder-led organisations often reach a point where growth creates new complexity. Decision-making slows. Accountability becomes uneven. Leadership teams become misaligned. Execution starts to fragment across functions, geographies, brands, or distributed teams.

This role exists to help clients navigate that transition with greater clarity, stronger governance, and more coherent leadership. The successful candidate will work closely with founders, CEOs, and senior leadership teams to improve how decisions are made, how priorities are translated into action, and how leadership systems support scale without losing speed or intent.

Why Your Background Matters

You may come from executive coaching, founder advisory, organisational consulting, leadership development, business transformation, or a senior operating role with a strong coaching track record.

What matters most is your ability to work credibly with founders and executive teams in complex, founder-led environments. You should understand the realities of scaling organisations where leadership maturity, governance, and operating rhythm need to evolve together.

You should also be able to connect behavioural leadership development with practical organisational outcomes such as:

  • clearer decision rights,
  • stronger accountability,
  • more consistent execution,
  • and better coordination across distributed teams.

What You’ll Be Trusted To Do

  • Lead executive coaching and founder advisory engagements for founders, CEOs, and senior leadership teams
  • Support founder-led organisations through growth, organisational change, and increasing operational complexity
  • Help clients strengthen governance, clarify decision rights, and improve leadership alignment
  • Coach leaders to improve judgement, effectiveness, and consistency in high-stakes decision-making
  • Design and deliver advisory work that improves execution coherence across leadership teams, business units, and distributed operating environments
  • Contribute to the development of OUR CLIENT’s coaching and advisory methodology, particularly in areas related to scale, governance, decision quality, and leadership effectiveness
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to shape client engagements, maintain quality, and strengthen the firm’s executive coaching and founder advisory capability
  • Where relevant and appropriate, incorporate AI-informed leadership systems, decision-support approaches, or operating practices into client work in a practical and commercially grounded way

Who Benefits From Your Work

Your work will directly support:

  • founders navigating scale,
  • CEOs managing increasing organisational complexity,
  • executive teams seeking stronger alignment,
  • and distributed organisations that need clearer decision-making and more coherent execution.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role is likely to include:

  • founders and leadership teams making clearer, faster, better-aligned decisions,
  • governance becoming more usable and less performative,
  • stronger accountability across leadership structures,
  • more coherent execution across teams, markets, or operating units,
  • and a coaching and founder advisory practice that grows in quality, credibility, and impact.

What We’re Looking For

  • Significant experience in executive coaching, senior leadership advisory, or a closely related field
  • Strong credibility with founders, CEOs, and executive teams
  • Ability to work on issues such as scale, governance, leadership alignment, decision quality, and organisational effectiveness
  • Commercial judgement and the ability to shape high-value advisory engagements
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills
  • A structured, practical approach to helping leaders translate strategy into aligned execution

Experience That Would Be Especially Valuable

Relevant backgrounds may include:

  • founder-led, entrepreneurial, or high-growth organisations,
  • distributed or multi-market leadership environments,
  • governance design, operating models, or executive decision frameworks,
  • organisational consulting or transformation advisory,
  • and responsible use of AI-informed leadership systems or decision-support approaches.

Equivalent experience will also be considered.

What Makes This Opportunity Attractive

This is a high-trust, high-impact role for someone who wants to do meaningful work with founders and senior leaders at consequential points in their growth journey.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • shape client outcomes directly,
  • contribute to the development of a distinctive founder advisory and executive coaching practice,
  • and work on leadership challenges where coaching, governance, and execution must come together.
