Chief Operating Officer
Indexed description
The opportunity
Our client is a profitable, fast-growing e-commerce fulfilment and logistics business operating multiple sites across Ireland and the UK, serving premium consumer brands. Founder-led and performance-driven, the business has grown strongly year-on-year and is now investing in its next phase: building a scalable, data-driven operations platform that can run without day-to-day founder involvement. They are appointing their first Chief Operating Officer to lead that transition.
From day one, you will have full responsibility for:
- Operations & fulfilment — multi-site warehouse operations, labour, capacity and carrier management across Ireland and the UK
- Client success & onboarding — the full client lifecycle post-contract
- Operational finance & performance — weekly profitability scorecards, margin improvement, cost-to-serve
- Process, technology & continuous improvement — WMS optimisation, automation, and building a data-driven culture
You will report directly to the founders, sit at the centre of the leadership team, and shape the network strategy — including major decisions on facility consolidation and expansion.
Why this role
- Breadth and autonomy. Operations, client success, operational finance and technology all sit with you — with the trust and authority to act.
- Scale-up, not turnaround. The business is profitable, growing in volume and profitability, and investing in capability.
- Real influence. You will build the operating model, strengthen the leadership bench, and put your stamp on how the business runs.
- Package. Competitive executive package including base salary, performance-related profit share, pension and benefits.
What we’re looking for
- 10–15+ years’ senior leadership in operations-heavy environments — e-commerce fulfilment / 3PL, FMCG or retail distribution, or multi-site warehousing and logistics
- A proven track record as COO, Operations Director, Supply Chain Director, Logistics Director or GM with clear P&L and multi-site accountability
- Experience scaling operations in high-growth or founder-led businesses
- Strong financial and commercial acumen — comfortable with P&L, EBITDA, unit economics and investment appraisal
- Hands-on familiarity with WMS platforms, KPI frameworks and Lean / continuous improvement
- A hands-on, low-ego, numbers-driven leadership style — as comfortable on the warehouse floor as in the boardroom
- A relevant degree is desirable; demonstrable impact matters more than formal credentials.
