Child Nutrition Manager Trainee

Reports To

Director of Child Nutrition, School Manager and Roving Manger

Receives Guidance From

Director, District Administration and Support Staff, Assistant Superintendent

Job Purpose

  • In keeping a tradition of excellence, the purpose of the Child Nutrition Manager Trainee is to gain the knowledge and experience required for advancement to a manager position under the direction of experienced personnel. Also, it is designed for the employee holding the position to receive training and perform duties in operating a school cafeteria, maintain State and Federal standards, and implements School Board policies and Child Nutrition procedures. Work is performed under the general supervision of the school manager with consultation of the Child Nutrition Director and Roving Manager. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties And Responsibilities

  • Learn Various Manager Functions While in Training
  • Aid in daily maintenance of perpetual and physical inventory and monthly submissions
  • Apply knowledge of planning, preparing and serving large varieties of food, equipment, and methods used in preparing and serving food
  • Assist manager in supervising food preparation, portion control and serving procedures
  • Assist all other Food Service Workers as needed to ensure standards of performance are maintained and program objectives achieved
  • Maintain sanitary work areas to include personal cleanliness, food handling, food storage and food preparation and clean-up
  • Ensure correct procedures for the receiving and storage of food supplies is applied
  • Apply knowledge of food values, nutrition, health, sanitary and safety practices
  • Follow countywide plan to service economical, nutritious, attractive meals
  • Assist in preparation, service, and clean-up as needed
  • Assist manager in executing proper procedures for checking all equipment throughout the training period
  • Serve as an apprentice to manager for training and promotional purposes
  • Report to manager any irregularities with food or personnel
  • Act as manager when manager is absent
  • Must agree to move to manager position if needed
  • Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable; serve on staff committees
  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development, for keeping current with literature, new research findings, for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences, and to maintain any credits and/or continued education for maintenance of licensure/qualifications required for the position
  • Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use
  • Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Regular, dependable, punctual, in person attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy
  • Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other district, state and federal policies, and procedures and protocols as established by RCSD and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct

Qualifications

  • Education Level: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED and 1 year experience with RCSD preparing and serving food to large groups
  • Certification: Must be Serv-Safe Certified
  • Other Requirements: Pass agility test and background check, must complete the interview process with Child Nutrition Director to be accepted in the Trainee Program, and must have a minimum of one (1) years experience in a school cafeteria or two (2) years management experience in a hospital, restaurant, or other foodservice setting

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using equipment such as a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The employee must be able to carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds. The employee must be able to stand up to two hours at a time, stoop and bend, reach and grasp objects, have manual dexterity and fine motor skills, have the ability to hear, communicate orally, push and pull carts or other like objects, use a keyboard to enter and transform works or data, proofread and check documents for accuracy, and use a video display terminal. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and color vision.

Work Environment

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The work environment is not a standard office setting; but rather encompasses the entire active school campus both inside and outside the facilities. The employee is expected to work in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation. The employee is expected to work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness would likely result in minor cuts, bruises or muscle pulls. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate or high.
