About The Role
Horizons is looking for a Lead Cook to oversee food production at the Radix Recovery Program location. In this hands-on leadership role, you'll prepare and cook meals while guiding a small kitchen team to keep everything running accurately, safely, and on schedule. What You'll Do
- Prepare and cook meals in line with program menus and dietary guidelines
- Lead and coordinate the daily work of a small kitchen team
- Manage food and supply inventory, including ordering and storage
- Maintain food safety, sanitation, and equipment standards to meet county, state, and federal requirements (including USDA commodity food handling)
- Oversee daily meal setup, serving, breakdown, and cleanup
- Partner with the Director of Community Health & Nutrition and Nutrition Services Manager on daily operations and catering events
- Adapt to shifting priorities to keep meal production on track
- Associate's degree in food service management or a related field, and/or 3–5 years of experience in quantity food preparation and service
- ServSafe or equivalent certification
- Strong leadership, organization, and team-supervision skills
- Comfort with a personal computer and Microsoft Office
- Valid Iowa driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable personal transportation
- Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and stand/walk for long periods
- Successful completion of a background check (convictions are reviewed individually and don't automatically disqualify candidates)
Salary: $16 - $19 per hour
