Linux Engineer

Position: Linux Engineer

Remote 100% from Mexico

Duration: 12 months contract (Extendable)

Overview:

The hiring manager is primarily looking for a strong Linux Systems Engineer with hands-on experience managing and patching a large server environment. The team supports approximately 900 servers and uses Red Hat Satellite as its primary patching platform.

The consultant will participate in scheduled patching activities two to three Saturdays per month. Saturday coverage is rotated among team members, so the candidate must be comfortable with occasional weekend work.

Key requirements include:

• Strong Linux administration experience.
• Hands-on server patching experience using Red Hat Satellite.
• Experience managing physical and virtual server environments.
• Ansible experience for configuration management and automation.
• Strong scripting skills, particularly PowerShell and Python.
• Experience packaging and deploying software.
• Experience monitoring server performance, security, stability, and capacity.
• Ability to troubleshoot outages and resolve technical issues promptly.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate, maintain, and upgrade operating systems and software to ensure server security and performance.
• Design, develop, and maintain the physical infrastructure, network, and layout of data centers.
• Provide architectural frameworks for servers, hardware, peripherals, and network connections, implementing industry standards and best practices.
• Ensure adequate capacity for corporate computing needs by monitoring and identifying capacity trends.
• Deliver technical support, provisioning, and automation for compute resources across various operating systems and hardware in both public and private cloud environments.
• Oversee operating efficiency, stability, and security of systems and data, responding to outages and resolving technical issues promptly.
• Prepare and deliver regular status, operational, incident, and change reports.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements:

• Experience managing and patching server assets, including virtual hosting platforms.
• Strong expertise with Linux
• Proficiency in configuration management tools (e.g., SCCM, Ansible).
• Strong scripting skills, particularly in PowerShell and Python.
• Experience packaging and deploying software to ensure compliance with the latest releases.
