Linux Platform Engineer

Leeds

£35,000 to £40,000

Hybrid working - 3 days per week onsite


Are you an experienced Linux engineer looking to broaden your skills across platform engineering, infrastructure and DevOps within a highly secure technical environment?


This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading defence organisation supporting critical engineering platforms used by software development teams across the business. You'll play a key role in maintaining and improving secure, on-premise platforms that enable engineers to develop, build and deploy cutting-edge technology.


Working within a collaborative platform engineering team, you'll help deliver reliable, scalable services while gaining exposure to a wide range of technologies and modern engineering practices.


The Role

You'll be responsible for supporting and enhancing Linux-based engineering platforms, ensuring the availability, performance and security of business-critical services. Working closely with development teams, you'll help improve deployment processes, maintain infrastructure and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the engineering environment.


This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, working across multiple technologies and continuously learning new skills.


Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Linux-based platforms supporting engineering teams

• Support internally hosted applications and engineering tooling across secure environments

• Assist with platform deployments, upgrades and ongoing maintenance activities

• Work closely with software development teams to improve build, deployment and configuration processes

• Troubleshoot infrastructure and application issues to ensure high service availability

• Contribute to automation and continuous improvement initiatives across the platform estate

• Support secure, on-premise environments with a strong focus on reliability and performance


Skills & Experience

• Commercial experience administering Linux environments

• Knowledge of networking principles and infrastructure technologies

• Experience supporting internally hosted applications or platforms

• Familiarity with Git, Jenkins or similar build and deployment tooling

• Experience with Atlassian products such as Jira, Confluence or Bitbucket would be beneficial

• Exposure to Kubernetes, Azure DevOps or other automation technologies would be advantageous

• Understanding of PKI or secure environments is desirable but not essential

• Strong troubleshooting skills with a proactive and inquisitive approach to problem solving
