Our client is seeking an experienced, senior-level Systems Administrator to join a collaborative IT team supporting a hybrid Microsoft infrastructure across corporate offices and active job sites. This hands-on role is ideal for an experienced infrastructure professional who enjoys balancing day-to-day operations with project-based work and will play a key role in Windows Server modernization, enterprise infrastructure upgrades, and ongoing technology improvements. The successful candidate will serve as the team's primary Windows Server resource while supporting VMware, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, enterprise networking, PowerShell automation, and other core infrastructure technologies.
What You'll Do:
- Administer Windows Server environments across physical, virtual, and hybrid Microsoft infrastructures.
- Lead or significantly contribute to Windows Server upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure modernization initiatives involving Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other core services.
- Support Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and synchronization with on-premises Active Directory.
- Manage VMware virtual infrastructure.
- Configure and support enterprise networking, including switches, firewalls, VPNs, wireless networking, and network troubleshooting.
- Maintain enterprise backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, and business continuity solutions.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate administration and improve operational efficiency.
- Provide Tier II and Tier III support while balancing infrastructure projects, vendor coordination, and operational responsibilities.
- Support infrastructure security, identity management, and access controls in partnership with the Security team.
- Participate in planned after-hours maintenance and a low-volume on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressively responsible Systems Administration or Infrastructure experience.
- Strong Windows Server expertise, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, patching, upgrades, and server roles/features.
- Recent experience participating in or leading Windows Server migration or modernization projects.
- Experience supporting hybrid Microsoft environments, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, and on-premises Active Directory.
- Recent VMware administration experience.
- Practical hands-on PowerShell scripting experience.
- Working knowledge of enterprise networking, including switches, firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, and wireless networking. Cisco Meraki experience is helpful but not required.
- Experience supporting enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and infrastructure monitoring.
- Ability to work independently while balancing operational support and project-based work.
- Strong communication, documentation, and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Relevant Microsoft, VMware, or networking certifications are helpful but not required.
- Experience supporting construction, engineering, manufacturing, or another distributed field-service environment.
- Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to less-experienced IT team members.
