The ideal candidate is a proactive infrastructure professional who can monitor system health, resolve complex technical issues, maintain documentation, and contribute to long-term capacity and infrastructure planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, and support physical and virtual servers.
- Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and capacity to identify and resolve potential issues before they affect operations.
- Troubleshoot production server and infrastructure issues, including occasional after-hours or weekend support when necessary.
- Participate in infrastructure capacity planning and lifecycle management.
- Maintain an effective backup and recovery strategy and regularly validate it through testing and restoration exercises.
- Implement and enforce security standards and best practices to protect systems, applications, and organizational data.
- Maintain current operating system security patches, feature updates, and configuration standards.
- Perform server hardware upgrades, replacements, and preventive maintenance.
- Create and maintain documentation for infrastructure deployments, configurations, procedures, standards, and architecture diagrams.
- Research emerging technologies and recommend solutions that may improve infrastructure reliability, security, or performance.
- Develop scripts, batch files, and automated processes to improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with internal users, technical teams, customers, and external vendors as needed.
- Maintain current technical knowledge through ongoing research, training, and professional development.
- Travel occasionally, including overnight travel, as business needs require.
- Three to five years of systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or related technical experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Advanced hands-on experience with:
- Windows Server
- Active Directory and Group Policy
- TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS
- VMware or comparable virtualization platforms
- Virtual desktop infrastructure or Virtual Desktop Access
- Hyperconverged infrastructure
- Storage area networks, including iSCSI and Fibre Channel
- Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or comparable cloud platforms
- Working knowledge of Linux environments, including Red Hat- and Debian-based distributions.
- Experience creating scripts, batch files, or automated administrative processes.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve complex technical problems with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, diagrams, schedules, and regulatory materials.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to leadership, users, vendors, and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, multitasking, and follow-through skills.
- Willingness to provide occasional after-hours support to protect business continuity.
- Current driver’s license and required automobile liability insurance.
- Ability to travel, including occasional overnight stays.
- Current or previous VMware certification.
- Experience supporting production, development, and test environments.
- Experience with infrastructure capacity planning, backup validation, disaster recovery, and system lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with infrastructure security standards and hardening practices.
