IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN).

Duties

• You will maintain control and access of data storage, space allocation and device usage for authorized users of management information system and unique systems.
• You will respond to system failures caused by software and hardware deficiencies and catastrophic or natural events.
• You will correct any weaknesses in the system in the event of an intrusion.
• You will provide advice and guidance in implementing site IT security policies and procedures in the development and operation of network systems.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Advising personnel on a wide range of complex IT issues based on current concepts, principles, methods, and practices; 2) Performing system administrative duties to ensure optimal functionality to support the command mission and programs; 3) Analyzing and resolving system failures caused by operating systems software and hardware deficiencies; and 4) Adhering to security policies and guidelines to setup and maintain network systems.

For GS-11: Experience that demonstrated accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques. For example, assignments would show, on the basis of general design criteria provided, experience in developing modifications to parts of a system that required significant revisions in the logic or techniques used in the original development. Accomplishments, in addition to those noted for the GS-9 level, normally involve the following, or the equivalent:

• Knowledge of the customary approaches, techniques, and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization;
• Planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; and
• Adaptation of guidelines or precedents to the needs of the assignment.

Degree must be in one of the following major study areas -- computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering, or course work that required the development or adaptation of computer programs and systems and provided knowledge equivalent to a major in the computer field.
