Linux Support Administrator

This is a long term contract and hybrid to downtown Chicago.

Purpose:

We are seeking an experienced Linux Systems Administrator to support and enhance our enterprise Linux infrastructure. This role is responsible for the deployment, maintenance, security, and optimization of RHEL-based environments across on-premises, virtual, and AWS cloud platforms. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in Linux administration, automation, vulnerability management, and cloud technologies, along with a proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues and support critical infrastructure operations.

Responsibilities:

• Deploy, configure, and maintain RHEL servers across physical, virtual, and AWS environments.
• Plan and execute system upgrades, patching, and migrations while minimizing downtime.
• Automate server provisioning and configuration management using Ansible.
• Manage and optimize AWS services, including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, and RDS.
• Identify, assess, and remediate vulnerabilities across Linux systems and applications.
• Administer Red Hat Satellite, including content views and lifecycle environments.
• Manage incidents, changes, and service requests through ServiceNow and Jira.
• Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability, and proactively resolve issues.
• Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and support disaster recovery activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on infrastructure projects and continuous improvements.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Linux Systems Administration experience with a strong focus on RHEL (CentOS and Ubuntu experience preferred).
• Hands-on experience with Ansible for automation and configuration management.
• Expertise in Linux patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
• Experience managing infrastructure in AWS environments.
• Knowledge of vulnerability management, remediation, and security best practices.
• Experience with ServiceNow and change management processes.
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware or KVM.
• Scripting experience with Bash, Python, or similar languages.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, etc.).
• Linux Certifications (RHCSA, RHCE, LPIC).
• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
• Experience with security frameworks such as NIST and CIS.
• Familiarity with monitoring and security tools including Splunk, CloudWatch, Qualys, CrowdStrike, Nagios, or Prometheus.
• Experience designing high-availability and multi-region AWS solutions.
• Hands-on experience with Red Hat Satellite administration.
