Linux Systems Engineer

We are a full-service digital partner looking to expand our IT team with the recruitment of a Linux Systems Engineer with experience managing web hosting platforms.

This role sits within our IT function and works under the IT Manager to support both our internal systems and our client-facing hosting services. You will play an important role in keeping our platforms secure, reliable and well operated, while helping us continue to strengthen and mature our IT operations as the business grows.

You will be comfortable working across a varied technical environment, with strong hands-on experience supporting Linux-based systems and web hosting platforms. The role combines day-to-day operational work with planned improvements and requires someone who takes ownership of issues through to resolution.

The role

As a Linux Systems Engineer, you will help operate and maintain our Linux based web hosting environment, ensuring client websites and supporting services remain available, secure and well maintained.

You will work closely with the IT Manager, the Network Infrastructure Manager and our wider technical teams to troubleshoot issues, maintain systems and support operational changes such as DNS updates, SSL certificate management and platform maintenance.

The role also includes supporting internal IT systems and assisting staff with technical issues where required.

Core responsibilities

• Operating, maintaining and patching Linux-based web hosting servers
• Managing hosting services including DNS records, SSL certificates, backups and scheduled maintenance
• Troubleshooting issues affecting hosted websites, web services and server performance
• Investigating and resolving operational issues across both client hosting platforms and internal systems
• Supporting and maintaining Azure-hosted infrastructure and services
• Assisting with website migrations, platform updates and service improvements
• Providing IT support for internal staff where required
• Managing hardware, software, user accounts and device lifecycles including onboarding and offboarding
• Supporting vulnerability remediation, patching and security improvements
• Maintaining clear documentation and updating support tickets

What we are looking for

• Hands-on experience administering Linux servers in a web hosting environment
• Confidence using the Linux command line to investigate and resolve issues
• Experience working with hosting control panels such as Plesk, KeyHelp or cPanel
• A good understanding of web hosting technologies, including web servers and common hosting services
• Experience managing DNS records, SSL certificates and website hosting platforms
• A solid understanding of network fundamentals, including IP networking and DNS
• Experience supporting both internal users and client-facing systems
• A structured approach to troubleshooting, documentation and issue ownership
• The ability to recognise when escalation is required and work collaboratively to resolve complex issues

Other information:

• 40 hours per week (Mon-Fri)
• Salary to be agreed based on experience
• Must be willing to come to our Cardiff Bay office twice a week
