Platform (DevOps) Engineer
Indexed description
About the Team
You'll join Point of Rental's UK engineering team as we modernize a long-established rental software product, moving it from legacy, on-prem infrastructure into a cloud-native AWS environment. You'll work directly alongside developers, QA, and DBAs, embedded in the team's day-to-day (stand-ups included), not sitting off to the side supporting from a distance.
What You'll Do
- Own and troubleshoot moderately complex problems within our AWS platform and CI/CD pipelines
- Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines across Azure DevOps and Jenkins to speed up releases and cut down manual steps
- Support our multi-tenant AWS environment (including AWS SSM, S3, and AppStream) as we migrate off legacy, on-prem systems
- Make independent operational decisions within established guidelines when responding to production issues
- Automate deployment and release tasks using Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Contribute to Infrastructure as Code practices (Ansible, CloudFormation, or similar) as we build more repeatable, scalable infrastructure
- Help drive release management improvements, reducing the time and effort every deployment takes
- Support ongoing Cyber Essentials compliance work, including vulnerability remediation and audit readiness
- Serve as the go-to technical resource for our dev team on infrastructure and pipeline questions
- Collaborate with UK and US engineering teams to keep deployments and infrastructure consistent across regions
What You Bring
- Typically requires 3-5 years of professional experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Cloud Engineering (equivalent hands-on experience also welcome)
- Demonstrated solid understanding of AWS cloud services in a production environment
- Demonstrated solid understanding of CI/CD tooling such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar
- Proven ability to automate repetitive work using Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (Ansible, CloudFormation, or similar)
- Comfortable operating in Linux environments, with the ability to support a Windows-based development team
- Proven track record of managing deployments or infrastructure projects with minimal supervision
- Strong troubleshooting instincts and a bias toward fixing root causes, not just symptoms
- Clear communicator who partners directly with developers rather than just working tickets
- Preferred: familiarity with .NET/C# environments, Docker/containerization, or experience supporting legacy-to-cloud modernization
Why Point of Rental
You'll get real ownership over how software ships, not just tickets to close. You'll work inside a UK team with low turnover and real investment in your growth, on a product used by thousands of rental businesses worldwide, with a front-row seat to our cloud migration over the next few years.
