We are seeking a Director / Senior Systems Engineer to lead a team of Linux engineers while driving automation and infrastructure modernization across the enterprise.
This is a unique opportunity to join a stable organization in a highly visible leadership role with a clear path to Executive Director within 6-12 months as part of a planned leadership succession.
Why This Role?
- Opportunity to step into a future Executive Director position.
- Lead a team of 5 Linux Systems Administrators while remaining hands-on technically.
- Own critical infrastructure initiatives with significant autonomy.
- Major projects including new OpenShift cluster deployments and a large-scale data center migration.
- Hybrid schedule (2 days/week in NYC).
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and mentor a team of Linux Systems Administrators.
- Manage and enhance enterprise OpenShift environments.
- Drive automation initiatives using Ansible and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP).
- Build automated infrastructure deployment workflows.
- Improve patching processes through automation and emergency patch deployment.
- Integrate AAP with enterprise systems, including Service Desk and CMDB platforms.
- Design and deploy infrastructure for both virtualized and bare-metal environments.
What They're Looking For
Required:
- Strong Linux systems administration background.
- Expert-level Ansible scripting and automation experience.
- Experience leading technical teams or serving as a hands-on manager/team lead.
- Experience designing and implementing enterprise infrastructure automation.
OpenShift Experience is Preferred — But Not Required.
The hiring manager is open to experienced Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) engineers who haven't worked extensively with OpenShift. If you have deep automation expertise and experience building enterprise integrations with AAP, the team is happy to teach and mentor you on the OpenShift side.
Experience With Any of the Following is a Plus
- Red Hat OpenShift
- Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP)
- Red Hat Satellite
- AutoSys or similar workload automation tools
- Bash, Python, or Perl scripting
- MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Microsoft SQL Server, or Sybase
- Infrastructure automation and enterprise integrations
Upcoming Projects
- Enterprise data center migration.
- Building multiple new OpenShift clusters (hosted and bare metal).
- Expanding automation capabilities across infrastructure and operations.
- Modernizing self-service infrastructure provisioning through Ansible Automation Platform.
If you're an experienced Linux infrastructure leader who enjoys building automation, mentoring engineers, and taking ownership of enterprise platforms, I'd love to connect. Even if your OpenShift experience is limited, strong Ansible Automation Platform expertise can make you an excellent fit.
