If you're naturally curious, enjoy tackling difficult problems, and have a "get it done" attitude, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on technologies that support demanding commercial, government, and defense applications. Summary:
As a Linux Systems Support Engineer, you will support Axellio’s Private and Government Customers in deploying, installing, and troubleshooting Axellio’s Xpress solutions and contracted platforms. This is a hands-on, physical-layer infrastructure and technical support role — installing, cabling, and sustaining enterprise servers, network, and virtualization platforms in commercial and secured DoD/military environments. The ideal candidate has deep, working knowledge of Linux and real hands-on comfort with physical network infrastructure (cabling, TAPs, SPAN ports), paired with strong customer-facing troubleshooting instincts and a demonstrated habit of learning new technology on their own initiative. This is a junior to mid-level role with a clear growth path into automation, virtualization, and advanced infrastructure engineering — you do not need to arrive with that depth, but you do need to arrive with the appetite for it.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, professional services, development, and cyber, to provide technical assistance during pre-sales, troubleshoot production systems, and support new or upgraded deployments. The ideal candidate possesses strong hands-on technical instincts, a willingness to learn, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, customer-facing environment.
Core Responsibilities (Primary):
- As a 24/7/365 organization, shift work, night shifts, holidays, and on-call responsibilities are required, and travel to customer sites globally up to 25% of the time is required.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot enterprise servers, operating systems, and networking equipment — switches, firewalls, hardware components, VLANs, physical cabling, TAPs/SPAN ports.
- Diagnose and resolve physical-layer connectivity issues (transceiver mismatches, fiber contamination, cable/mode mismatches) using standard troubleshooting procedures.
- Administer and troubleshoot Linux operating systems (RHEL and RHEL-based) day-to-day using the command line interface.
- Represent Axellio product delivery (Xpress platform and solutions); own the delivery of and manage customer experience with Axellio-developed appliances and software.
- Provide on-site and remote technical support and troubleshooting for customers.
- Document system and network configurations, changes, and operational processes.
Essential Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizen holding an active Security Clearance
- Ability to travel worldwide up to 25%.
- Deep, working technical knowledge of command line Linux — able to navigate, administer, and troubleshoot systems independently, not just execute basic commands.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in information systems, networking, or computer science, OR a Computer Science degree.
- Hands-on experience with physical network infrastructure — cabling, TAPs/SPAN ports, physical installation, and troubleshooting (not just conceptual understanding).
- Candidates should have a primary background in technical/systems support and network infrastructure. Applicants with exclusively cybersecurity experience and no hands-on server/network infrastructure administration will not be considered.
- Customer-facing technical support experience.
- A demonstrated pattern of self-directed technical learning — able to speak to a specific example from the
past year (personal project, home lab, certification pursued on your own initiative).
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to Bash scripting and Ansible (prior use is a plus — production automation ownership is not expected).
- Familiarity with virtualization and container platforms.
- Familiarity with RMF/STIG-adjacent concepts is a plus.
What You Get:
- Base compensation in the $80,000 to $120,000 commensurate with experience.
- Office location: Colorado Springs, CO — in office minimum 3 days/week (5 days to start)
- Medical, dental, vision insurance with company paid STD and LTD + life insurance.
- 401k + company match & flexible paid time off.
- Equity stock options so that you can share in business success.
- The chance to develop next generation products and work with others who are passionate about technology.
- A team driven by collaboration and getting results in a fast paced and transparent start-up environment where trying new things, “failing fast,” and learning are valued.
