Job Summary
The Virtual Machine Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of virtualized server environments. This role ensures the availability, performance, security, and scalability of the organization's virtualization infrastructure, including VMware, Hyper-V, and cloud-based virtual machines. The position works closely with infrastructure, network, security, and application teams to support business-critical systems and projects.
Key Responsibilities
Virtualization Infrastructure Management
- Administer and maintain VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, Microsoft Hyper-V, or equivalent virtualization platforms.
- Provision, configure, and manage virtual machines based on business requirements.
- Perform VM lifecycle management, including deployment, migration, upgrades, patching, and decommissioning.
- Monitor virtualization environments to ensure optimal performance and capacity utilization.
- Implement and manage high availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), and fault-tolerant solutions.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in System Administration or Infrastructure Support.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience managing VMware, Hyper-V, or enterprise virtualization platforms.
- Experience supporting enterprise data center environments.
Technical Skills
- VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter Administration.
- Microsoft Hyper-V Administration.
- Windows Server and Linux Administration.
- Active Directory and DNS.
- Storage technologies (SAN, NAS, iSCSI).
- Backup and Disaster Recovery solutions.
- PowerShell, Bash, or automation scripting.
- Infrastructure monitoring tools.
- Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) preferred.
