TigerByte Cyber

Systems Administrator II

Hauppauge, Long Island, NY | Full-Time | Remote initially, transitioning to Hybrid (2 days/week onsite)

About TigerByte Cyber

TigerByte Cyber is a small, fast-growing defense and commercial technology company (~10 employees) building edge cybersecurity hardware and AI Governance Software. The team operates in a highly regulated environment (CMMC, NIST SP 800-171) and works closely with government and defense-adjacent programs.

Why This Role Is Open

The company's sole IT/Systems Administrator has resigned and given one month's notice. This is a backfill for a critical, single-person function — the incoming hire will be the sole owner of IT infrastructure going forward. The outgoing admin will remain available on a part-time contract basis after departure to support knowledge transfer.

Position Overview

TigerByte Cyber is looking for a Systems Administrator II to own and operate the company's IT infrastructure end-to-end. This is a hands-on, do-it-all role for someone who wants real ownership early in their career — administering a Linux/Windows/Azure environment, supporting CMMC/NIST compliance, and occasionally working alongside engineering teams on edge hardware (FPGA/GPU) connectivity. Prior experience with that specialized hardware is not required and will be trained; what matters most is the ability to take ownership, communicate proactively, and operate independently as the company's only IT resource.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and administer the company's full IT infrastructure as the sole Systems Administrator.
  • Administer Ubuntu Linux servers, VMs, and Docker containers running core infrastructure.
  • Administer the Microsoft Azure Government Community Cloud (GCC High) tenant, including endpoint management, device/user administration, monitoring, and CMMC compliance controls.
  • Maintain secure network services: VPN, network segmentation, firewalls, and DNS.
  • Support CMMC and NIST SP 800-171 compliance activities using existing company templates and policies (no need to build a compliance program from scratch).
  • Occasionally connect production servers to engineering's edge hardware devices (FPGA, GPU boards) — full training provided, no prior enterprise FPGA/GPU tooling experience required.
  • Support the GitLab-based development environment used by the engineering team; deep enterprise GitLab administration is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Communicate proactively — flag issues and open questions immediately rather than waiting for the next scheduled check-in.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours infrastructure issues as needed.
  • Support the planned physical relocation of the company's server rack (currently in Hanover, NH) to the new Hauppauge, NY office.
  • Absorb hands-on knowledge transfer from the outgoing Systems Administrator during the transition period.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on IT infrastructure experience — internship, first professional role, or substantial personal/academic project experience is acceptable. New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Working knowledge of both Windows and Linux system administration.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure tenant administration, virtual machines, and Docker containers.
  • U.S. Citizenship required. No visa sponsorship or Green Card candidates (company policy, non-negotiable).
  • Willingness and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance — the company will sponsor and fund the clearance process for the right candidate; an existing clearance is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Demonstrated self-starter mentality — comfortable being the sole owner of IT infrastructure, proactive in communication, and able to work independently with limited day-to-day oversight.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Hauppauge, NY approximately 2 days/week once the office opens (targeted ~November), and to be reachable for after-hours on-call support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance.
  • Experience in a regulated/compliance-heavy environment (CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, SOC 2, HIPAA, or similar).
  • Hobbyist or professional exposure to FPGA, GPU, or embedded hardware platforms — experience with Arduino or Raspberry Pi is considered a strong, relevant analog.
  • Familiarity with GitLab and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Background in aerospace, healthcare, finance, or other regulated industries.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Target compensation: competitive, market-aligned base salary (final band to be confirmed prior to posting).
  • 100% employer-paid medical and dental coverage, effective from day one.
  • 15 days PTO annually — accrues over time but is usable immediately, no waiting period.
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Certification and training reimbursement.
  • Standard 90-day introductory period applies; core benefits remain active from the start date.

Location & Work Arrangement

This role is based out of TigerByte Cyber's new Hauppauge, Long Island office. The expectation is approximately 2 days/week on-site, with additional on-site time as needed for hands-on hardware work, deployments, or incident response
