Second Line Support Engineer
Indexed description
We're hiring a Second Line Engineer, on behalf of a growing North East MSP, for a genuinely broad, project-connected role — not another "M365 only" seat on a ticket queue.
The role
You'll cover real ground: networking, M365, some Azure/AVD/Citrix, and on-site work when it matters. Networking isn't an afterthought here — it's treated as the foundation everyone above 1st line needs to be sharp on, and you'll use it weekly, not once a quarter.
You won't be boxed into BAU either. Second line engineers work alongside 3rd line and the architects on live projects, and you'll own smaller projects yourself. Expect a mix of remote work and onsite P1s — getting a network back up, swapping out switches or a UPS — the kind of work where you see the fix land and talk to the customer who needed it.
Get paid to get certified
Training budget isn't a line item nobody touches here it's built in and expected to be used. Cash bonuses are paid out for every exam you pass, scaling up as you move from foundational certs through to Associate and Expert level.
Hit Microsoft Expert and you're looking at a proper pay rise from the next budget cycle, with a clear route to a strong salary and early progression into 3rd line. This is budgeted, not promised.
Who you'll work for
Leadership here is engineering-led — the technical director comes from a deep networking and field background and knows exactly what the job involves. Expectations are high, but they're set by someone who's done the work, not someone reading it off a spec sheet.
The team is being built deliberately: a strong core group, not a revolving door. If you're solid and straight about where your skills currently sit, that's valued a lot more than a CV that's been "optimised" to look further along than it is.
What they're looking for
- Solid 2nd line experience with real networking exposure — you actually want to keep using it
- Comfortable across M365, with some Azure/AVD/Citrix exposure a plus
- Happy with a mix of remote and on-site work, including occasional P1 response
- Ambitious about certification — you'll be backed to pursue it, not just told to "find time"
Why this one's different
Clear scope. Real project exposure. A funded, defined certification pathway with cash attached. A realistic runway to 3rd line and a stronger salary. And leadership that understands the job because they've done it.
