Data Center Engineer | Trading Infrastructure
Location: Chicago, IL
I'm representing a technology-driven trading firm that operates some of the most sophisticated low-latency and high-performance computing infrastructure in the industry. They are looking for a Data Center Engineer to join a global infrastructure team responsible for the physical data center environments that power their trading operations, including liquid cooling systems and GPU-dense compute.
This is a hands-on, project-oriented role with real ownership from start to finish. You'll work with cutting-edge server, network, and storage technology, and play a central part in keeping mission-critical infrastructure running at its best.
What you'll do
- Maintain data center infrastructure including power, cooling (including direct liquid cooling), hardware, and cabling to ensure maximum availability
- Plan and execute new hardware installations, covering physical placement, power and cooling requirements, and structured cabling
- Rack, cable, and configure data center hardware including servers, GPU-dense compute, network equipment, and storage devices
- Perform hardware troubleshooting and break-fix across data center infrastructure
- Handle initial configuration of network devices and Linux servers via CLI and zero-touch provisioning
- Manage colocation provider and vendor relationships, and oversee onsite contractors
- Maintain accurate inventory, documentation, and capacity planning across space, power, cooling, and cabling
- Occasional travel to other data center sites may be required
What you'll bring
- 3+ years of data center experience
- Direct liquid cooling experience
- GPU hardware exposure
- Strong understanding of data center infrastructure including electrical, power, cooling, and safety
- Knowledge of cabling standards and media types, with an exceptionally high standard for cable management
- Experience with hardware repair across servers, network devices, and storage
- Hands-on experience configuring Cisco and Arista devices via CLI
- Comfort working at the Linux command line for basic troubleshooting and script execution
- Ability to understand basic network designs and topologies
- Failure analysis experience is a plus
- Programming experience such as Python is a plus
- Must be able to meet physical requirements including working at height and lifting up to 50 lbs
