Indexed description

This is a remote position; however, candidates located in New Jersey or the surrounding region are strongly preferred due to team collaboration, market alignment, and occasional travel requirements.

Telvero is hiring a Senior Transport Engineer on behalf of our client, a rapidly growing fiber infrastructure provider building and expanding a large-scale carrier-grade network.

This role is ideal for an experienced transport engineer with a strong background in optical transport, backbone networking, capacity planning, and network resiliency. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, scaling, and optimizing transport infrastructure that supports both access and core network growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and support carrier-grade transport and backbone network infrastructure.

• Lead transport architecture initiatives involving DWDM, OTN, optical transport systems, aggregation networks, and backbone connectivity.

• Develop resilient network topologies with a focus on redundancy, route diversity, and elimination of single points of failure.

• Perform capacity planning, bandwidth forecasting, and network growth analysis.

• Design and optimize transport routes, aggregation strategies, and backbone expansion plans.

• Support transport testing, turn-up, validation, and operational readiness activities.

• Collaborate with engineering, operations, deployment, construction, and vendor teams to ensure successful project delivery.

• Participate in vendor evaluations, technology selection, and transport infrastructure planning initiatives.

• Develop and maintain engineering standards, network documentation, and operational best practices.

• Support network reliability, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning efforts.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in carrier, telecom, ISP, transport, or backbone network engineering environments.

• Strong experience designing and supporting transport and optical networking infrastructure.

• Hands-on experience with DWDM, CWDM, OTN, ROADM, or similar optical transport technologies.

• Experience with transport capacity planning, forecasting, and network scalability initiatives.

• Strong understanding of network resiliency, route diversity, redundancy, and carrier-grade network operations.

• Experience supporting backbone connectivity, transport aggregation, and network interconnection strategies.

• Ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and make sound engineering decisions balancing performance, reliability, and cost.

• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in fiber, wholesale fiber, ISP, telecom, or carrier network environments.

• Familiarity with FTTH, PON, GPON, XGS-PON, or broadband access network architectures.

• Experience with platforms such as Ciena, Nokia, Infinera, Cisco, Juniper, Calix, or similar technologies.

• Familiarity with MPLS, IP transport, carrier Ethernet, or large-scale backbone environments.

• Experience supporting multi-market network deployments and network expansion initiatives.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate can clearly discuss transport networks they have personally designed or engineered, explain the technical decisions they made, and provide examples of capacity planning, resiliency design, route diversity, and network growth strategies. We're looking for someone who combines strong transport engineering fundamentals with the ability to help guide the long-term evolution of a growing carrier-grade network.
